There’s been a few VR game delays of late, such as Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable and Bulletstorm VR. Just like the rail services in the UK, Something Different’s Toy Trains has also seen a slight delay. Not by much, however, with a new Toy Trains multiplatform launch now taking place in January.
It’s been four years since Valve took the VR industry by storm with the launch of Valve Index. While still one of the best PCVR headsets, competitors have continued to improve their designs whilst Valve has stayed quiet. However, Valve certainly isn’t done with the technology, restating that “we’re still working on VR”,
During the course of 2023, there have been three Steam Next Fest’s. These are week-long events where you can demo new and upcoming titles, giving developers a chance to showcase and promote their projects. When it came to VR studios they also took part but in far smaller numbers. However, in December we get our own dedicated Steam VR Fest to enjoy.
Japenese developer MyDearest Inc. is well known for its narrative-rich VR titles like Tokyo Chronos and ALTDEUS: Beyond Chronos. Its latest project with IzanagiGames, DYSCHRONIA: Chronos Alternate arrived for Meta Quest headsets in 2022. Creating big open-world role-playing games is no easy task, especially where VR is concerned. The likes of Zenith: The Last City and OrbusVR: Reborn are just two examples currently on the market, with a third likely to arrive later this month. The likes of VRChat and Neos VR have dominated the space with a new contender set to arrive this week. Digital universe Resonite is set to launch this week on Steam Early Access, promising a platform with “infinite possibilities”.
With Steam Next Fest arriving in a few days there’s going to be a slew of exciting VR demos to play. Seemingly getting ahead of the pack, Resolution Games has already released a demo for its upcoming title Demeo Battles. However, even though the final game will be cross-platform compatible, the demo doesn’t support VR.
Tabletop board games work exceedingly well in VR, just look at games like Demeo, Catan VR and Skyworld: Kingdom Brawl. But none of the titles quite capture the fluidity and player experience of Dungeons & Dragons. That is where Dungeon Full Dive comes in, an upcoming title from TxK Gaming Studios.
Normally, we wouldn’t get too excited about the release of a software update, but when it’s Valve you take notice. When you’re into virtual reality and Valve drops the SteamVR 2.0 Beta, you jump up and start reading! Why, because it’s three years past due and brings greater synergy with the entire ecosystem, SteamDeck included.
