One of XR Source’s most anticipated VR games of 2023 was UNIVRS’ Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable. A Meta Quest exclusive originally earmarked for release this past summer, the studio delayed the launch until Winter 2023. Unfortunately, the studio has delayed Attack on Titan VR pushing it into later 2024.
In what is becoming a regular occurrence, UNIVRS issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) saying the following.
“We have decided to postpone the release date of Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable once again,” writes UNIVRS CEO Keigo Fujikawa. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to those who have been looking forward to the game as well as to everyone involved. To deliver the highest quality product to players around the world, we need a little more time to complete it.
All of us at UNIVRS will continue to work hard to bring you a VR title that you will enjoy even more. We are striving to make Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable more exciting for all of you who are waiting for it, and we appreciate your continued patience.”
Attack on Titan VR Delayed
Supporting Meta Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2, Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable now has an ambiguous ‘latter half of 2024’ release window. So that could theoretically mean a delay of a year.
Nothing has been seen of the game so far. UNIVRS released a trailer over the summer but all the footage featured pre-render animations, there was no actual gameplay. So we have no idea how far along development is or what serious changes have been made to warrant the long delay.
The main info regarding the game comes from this studio synopsis. “In Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable, players are tasked with taking on unique missions as members of the Scout Regiment. They will need to combine entirely free three-dimensional movement through use of their Omni-directional Mobility (ODM) Gear with cross-range combat in order to defend themselves against killer titans. As players progress, the battle difficulty will increase, so only those with determination and skills critical to making it through to the final battle will survive.”
However, Attack on Titan fans don’t have to wait until 2024 to play a new AoT game. It might not be VR, but YouTuber and game developer Swammy recently released his own Attack on Titan fan-made game, and it looks awesome! You can download it for free here.
