After the critical acclaim of 2021’s The Secret of Retropolis, Peanut Button returns with its next VR adventure today. Continuing the saga, Retropolis 2: Never Say Goodbye arrives for Meta Quest and PCVR headsets. Where you once again become the protagonist of a film noir plot.

Retropolis 2: Never Say Goodbye is a narrative-driven game where you step into the shoes of hard-boiled robo-detective Philip Log. Filled with plot twists and stunning scenery, the studio notes: “every scene has been meticulously hand-painted within the VR space. Boasting an astonishing overall 2.5 million virtual brush strokes.”

“We wanted to elevate the gaming experience to a new level, not just in terms of narrative and gameplay, but also in terms of artistic expression. Each brush stroke is a labour of love, contributing to the unique visual identity of Retropolis 2,” says Asaf Geva, Co-founder of Peanut Button in a statement.

Meta Quest owners may have already dipped their toes into this robotic cityscape. Peanut Button released the first episode of Retropolis 2: Never Say Goodbye into early access via App Lab last summer. Today’s launch will add the rest of the episodes for free for current owners.

Set a year after the events of the first game, you must solve logic puzzles to find out what happened to the love of your life. Utilise Log’s pair of extendo-arms to collect items from a distance whilst enjoying new rotation mechanics and movement between different environments. All to an original electro-jazz soundtrack.

You don’t need to have played The Secret of Retropolis to enjoy the sequel. It’s designed to be standalone. Those that have will find a more challenging adventure with a substantially longer playtime.

Retropolis 2: Never Say Goodbye is available today on Meta Quest and Steam. You can watch the brand-new trailer here.
