The current darling of the indie gaming world is Hollow Knight: Silksong. Recently released by Team Cherry, the long-awaited sequel took seven years to make. It’s been very well received, too, despite its high difficulty. But what happens if you love platform adventures but want something in VR? Well, here are some of the best Hollow Knight: Silksong VR alternatives.

Moss Book II - Best Meta Quest 2 Games

Moss: Book II

While this selection of games is in no particular order, it has to be said that Polyarc’s Moss franchise leads the pack. In particular, Moss: Book II takes its sibling’s much-loved gameplay and further refines the experience. You take on the role of Quill, looking to save her home by ending the merciless rule of the Arcane.

Moss: Book II delivers a classic slice of platforming adventure in VR, with plenty of enemies to fight, puzzles to solve and intricately detailed environments to explore. It’s a gorgeous game to look at, a joy to play and certainly worthy of your time.

New VR Game September - Escaping Wonderland

Escaping Wonderland

Escaping Wonderland is another sequel on this list, kind of following on from Cortopia Studios’ previous game, Down the Rabbit Hole. Both are set within the evocative world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

In Escaping Wonderland, you take on the role of Molly in an original adventure featuring notable characters like the Cheshire Cat. The game doesn’t feature any platforming per se, as it mostly focuses on intricately woven puzzles across beautifully designed diaramas. However, the characters, gameplay and art style create a VR experience that’s a delight for players of all ages.

Ghost Giant

Ghost Giant

Before the team at MoonHood delivered the enchanting The Midnight Walk, several of them worked at Zoink Games. Here, they made one of the most endearing games of 2020, Ghost Giant. You are the titular ghost giant, coming to the aid of a lonely little boy called Louis. You must help him overcome obstacles large and small, eventually building trust during its heart-warming story.

Far easier than the likes of Hollow Knight: Silksong, nevertheless, Ghost Giant is still one of those complex games you won’t mind unwinding.

When it comes to platforming in VR, you can’t go too far wrong with Max Mustard. Released in 2024 by Toast Interactive, the game is a vibrant, exquisitely designed platformer that could easily stand alongside icons like Mario.

You are the fearless protagonist, Max, off on a quest to rescue the adorable mudpups. You’ll be able to bounce through 40 platform-filled levels, with mini-games to complete and bosses to fight. While the game used to be available for PSVR 2, PCVR and Meta Quest, an issue occurred where the game was removed from the Horizon Store. No details were released as to why, so Quest owners, you’ll have to head to Steam if you want to buy the game.

Ven VR Adventure

Ven VR Adventure

It’s true that few games in VR can match the hardcore difficulty of Hollow Knight: Silksong. But if there’s one up to the challenge, it is Ven VR Adventure from Monologic Games. Ven’s planet has been invaded by Bruce Nelson, who is intent on destroying this magical world in his bid to become immortal.

Cue pure 3D platforming, with difficult jumps, dangerous enemies and all manner of spiky hazards to avoid. Ven VR Adventure did slip under the radar of players since its 2021 launch, so now is the perfect time to pick it up and test your jumping skills.

And there you have it. That wraps up our picks of the seven best Hollow Knight: Silksong VR alternatives. What are your thoughts? Which ones did we miss? Let us know in the comments below!
