It used to be that for fans of driving simulators, you’d need an extensive PC setup including three hefty monitors. While some still go down this route, VR makes this far more manageable. Dispensing with the monitors for a far more compact and immersive solution. But what sims do you pair with a modern VR headset? Here’s XRSource’s pick of the 7 best VR driving simulators.

You can’t talk about driving simulators without first mentioning Gran Turismo 7. A landmark franchise for PlayStation consoles, this latest incarnation features full PSVR 2 support. Offering a happy middle ground between arcade and hardcore sim racing, for car fans who love VR, Gran Turismo 7 is an obvious choice.

You can play the entire game, including the campaign, in VR. And with PSVR 2’s OLED display and HDR support, the graphics are stunning and incredibly detailed.

While VR support was added in, that hasn’t hampered the experience. Hence why Gran Turismo 7 regularly features in ‘must have’ lists for PSVR 2.

Le Mans Ultimate

Le Mans Ultimate

Initially released as a Steam Early Access title in 2024, Le Mans Ultimate officially launched in July 2025. Developed by Studio 397, it is the official game of the FIA World Endurance Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans. With official endorsement, that means plenty of gorgeous-looking cars all in exquisite detail for VR racing fans to enjoy.

Whether you’re a fan of these particular race series or not, these hypercars demand your attention. Cars like the Aston Martin Valkyrie LMH and Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 are available to race around seven destinations, including Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Sebring International Raceway and the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans.

Enjoy solo race weekends or multiplayer PvP events, with realistic driving conditions and weather events. In the future, Studio 397 also plans on adding a solo campaign mode as well.

Best VR Racing Games - Automobilista 2

Automobilista 2

Got a beefy PC, and shiny VR headset and want a stunning racing sim to tie it all together? Then look no further than Automobilista 2 by Reiza Studio. Tailored towards all fans of motorsports, there is an abundance of vehicles, tracks, customisations, and simulation settings to keep you busy for years.

Whether you prefer karting, trucks, GT sports, classic cars, or the very latest hypercar prototypes, Automobilista 2 has got you covered. Realism is, of course, at the very heart of Automobilista 2, so not only does it look accurate, but it also offers dynamic weather and track condition systems. And then there’s the adherence to rules & regulations, covering most of the major world series.

Assetto Corsa Competizione

Assetto Corsa Competizione

There are, in fact, three Assetto Corsa games worth considering if you’re into driving simulators. Assetto Corsa (2014) is the oldest, Assetto Corsa EVO (2025) the newest and currently in Early Access, and then there’s Assetto Corsa Competizione (2019). We’ve gone for Competizione for several reasons, but mainly because it offers the best overall experience.

Competizione is the official GT World Challenge game, so it only offers GT3 cars. However, these vehicles are rather amazing and look the business in VR. Assetto Corsa does have a wider array of cars, but it is now 10+ years old, whereas EVO has the latest toys but suffers from significant performance issues currently.

EA SPORTS WRC

EA SPORTS WRC

Prefer getting your racing cars all mucked up with some off-road driving? Then EA Sports WRC is worth a look. Another official videogame, this time for the FIA World Rally Championship, EA Sports WRC benefits from a huge selection of stages, high-performance vehicles, liveries, licensed crews and more.

This being a rally game, players are advised that they’ll need a strong stomach when playing in VR. Unlike a nice smooth race track, rallying features a significant amount of bumps and jumps. And that’s before considering misjudging a corner, flying off a cliff and toppling down a mountainside briefly. Even with that thought in mind, EA Sports WRC is an unrelenting thrill ride.

Project CARS 3

Project CARS 3

If XRSource had published this driving sim list a few years ago, we’d be talking about Project CARS 2 about now. This was a phenomenal racing game from Slightly Mad Studios, with over 200 cars, great graphics and physics. Unfortunately, due to official licenses running out, the 2017 game was delisted from stores like Steam, PS Store and Epic Games Store in 2022. If you already own it, enjoy it in VR; otherwise, there’s Project CARS 3.

This is still a good racing game in VR, with great graphics and physics. But it’s not the hardcore driving sim its predecessor was, removing features like tire wear and pitstops for a more exciting, arcade-style experience. And, as fate would have it, Project Cars 3 is getting delisted on 24th August 2025, so snap it up while you can!

F1 25

F1 25

Lastly, what’s a driving sim collection without the mother of all racing series, Formula 1. From Codemasters, the same racing specialists behind titles like EA SPORTS WRC and DiRT Rally 2.0, comes F1 25. And you guessed it, the official videogame of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship.

All the official cars, teams and drivers, all gloriously recreated to be enjoyed in VR. Improving upon its predecessor in handling and visuals, F1 25 has revamped features like My Team mode, making for a more refined F1 experience. If you want a reason to buy a racing wheel, this is it.

And there you have it. That wraps up our picks of the seven best VR driving simulators. What are your thoughts? Which ones did we miss? Let us know in the comments below!
