Best VR Games to Play With Friends
Zombie Army VR
From Rebellion comes the latest instalment in the Zombie Army franchise. Released for all major headsets, including Meta Quest and PSVR 2, Zombie Army VR drops players into Europe post-WW2, where zombies have run amok.
Taking on the role of an elite Deadhunter, players are tasked with one thing: kill every last zombie. There is a story, but you don’t need to worry about that. Just bring a friend and enjoy the campaign in co-op mode, teaming up to show the undead who’s boss. Oh, and just like Rebellion’s other big franchise, Sniper Elite, Zombie Army VR features the X-Ray Kill Cam for some awesome head popping replays.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
An oldie but a goldie, Steel Crate Games’ Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes has been around since the days of the Gear VR. Updated for Meta Quest 3 a couple of years ago, this is still a social favourite.
The basic premise is to defuse a bomb before the timer runs out. There are wires to cut, codes to solve, dials to turn and lots, lots more. However, while all of this is present in VR, there are no in-VR clues as to how to solve any of these puzzles. That’s where the social element comes in. The non-VR players, or “Experts”, have the manual but can’t see what it looks like. Thus, leading to a situation where each side needs to carefully explain what they can see. Leading to plenty of fun and panicked explanations aplenty!

Gorilla Tag
You can’t talk about social gaming with friends without mentioning Gorilla Tag. This behemoth of a game has literally rewritten the rulebook on VR gaming. You have half a gorilla body and use your arms to bound around virtual playgrounds playing games like virtual tag or ‘Infection’. And it’s completely free, so there’s no harm in trying it.
Designed for a younger audience, there are also lots of Gorilla Tag clones out there. Don’t bother with those are just try the original.

Population: One
If you’re looking for plenty of vertical combat with a couple of mates, you can’t go too far wrong with Population: One. Bringing Fortnite-style gameplay to VR, Population: One features teams of three all thrust into one giant map. The map features an assortment of themed areas, but the main aim is to be the last team standing.
Starting with nothing, find guns and equipment to survive, scaling buildings to get a better vantage point before gliding into the next fight. The action is fast-paced, and there’s even a building option to quickly erect walls and platforms to gain an advantage.
Furthermore, having now gone free-to-play, this makes Population: One a no-brainer.
Vestiges: Fallen Tribes
For a far more strategic battle with friends, look towards Vestiges: Fallen Tribes. Blending board game mechanics with autobattler gameplay, wage war by deploying troops from your deck of cards. Once placed, they’ll head into battle on their own, with no way to influence the assault until it reaches its conclusion.
That means planning ahead. Deciding which troops should be placed first, which to hold back, and which ones can counter an imminent threat. The solo campaign helps to get acquainted with the gameplay before heading into the PvP mode to challenge your friends.
Final Fury
Why team up with friends or help them solve puzzles when you can punch them in the face? Say hello to PvP fighting game Final Fury. Unleash a flurry of punches, upper cuts and devastating combos to become king of the ring.
Offering plenty of physical exertion, choose from six fighters, each with their own play style and abilities, Final Fury is great fun. You’ll sweat a lot, but it’ll also put a smile on your face when you win.

Demeo
There’s not much to say about Demeo that hasn’t already been said, it is one of XRSource’s favourite strategy games and a great collaborative multiplayer game. A tabletop dungeon crawler from Resolution Games, Demeo is entirely turn-based. Select from one of a number of different character classes, including Archer or Wizard, before exploring enemy-filled dungeons by yourself or with three friends.
Surviving the corridors and hallways of these dungeons to reach the final boss is no easy task. Characters are picked up and moved around, with battles won and lost on the roll of a die. Providing a social experience alongside the five campaign adventures, don’t miss The Heroes’ Hangout in between quests.
And there you have it. That wraps up our picks of the best VR games to play with friends. What are your thoughts? Which ones did we miss? Let us know in the comments below!
