Such is the VR community’s fondness for horror games that there is a plethora to choose from. Some have been great, whilst others have been shocking (not in a good scary way), with many slipping from memory over time. So today, XRSource presents the best VR horror games you’ve never played (probably).

Ghost Photographers

Ghost Photographers

Let’s start with a new one, Ghost Photographers. Only released for Meta Quest headsets in February 2025, this one kind of went under the radar quite quickly. From prolific Japanese developer and publisher MyDearest, Ghost Photographers leverages everyone’s go-to gadget, the mobile phone, into a device that can uncover mysterious, ghostly phenomena.

Supporting both single-player and multiplayer gameplay modes (up to 4 players), the idea is to solve puzzles and escape without being caught by the terrifying spirits. There are no weapons or combat in the game; you have to tread carefully because once spotted, all you can do is run.

AFFECTED: The Manor - Complete Edition

Affected: The Manor

The oldest game XRSource has chosen is Fallen Planet Studios’ Affected: The Manor. Harking back to the days of the Gear VR, Affected: The Manor underwent an extensive redesign to bring it into the more modern 6DoF era. Essentially a horror walkthrough experience, the studio continually refined the game, adding a speedrun mode called The Gauntlet and The Darkness, where you only have a candle to light the way.

All bundled together under Affected The Manor – Complete Edition, while some VR purists may want more interactivity, it’s a great title for those new to VR. Serving up a terrifying slice of terror with too many overbearing mechanics.

Propagation: Paradise Hotel - image4

Propagation: Paradise Hotel

Time for some classic horror tropes, an abandoned, dilapidated hotel, a lone survivor and monstrous creatures roaming the hallways. Propagation: Paradise Hotel blends all of these together very well, as you step into the shoes of Emily Diaz, who is desperate to find her sister. However, a strange illness has turned the guests into abominations that want to kill.

Part sneaky horror and part action, you can protect yourself with weapons, or you can try to avoid confrontation; making loud noises comes at a cost. The hotel is filled with elaborate puzzles to solve and dark, menacing corridors to explore. It’s a big hotel, making this a sizeable adventure.

For those after suspenseful horror, full of atmosphere and vengeful ghosts, there’s Fast Travel Games’ Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife. Heavily story-driven and based within The World of Darkness universe, this is a twisted adventure that’ll keep you on your toes.

Exploring the cavernous Barclay Mansion, you’re actually already dead, granted special abilities to help solve your murder. However, the mansion is filled with horrifying Spectres, tormented beings you can’t fight but have to avoid using every tool at your disposal. Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife is one game that’ll have you hooked to the end.

Last on the list is a VR classic, The Exorcist: Legion VR. Originally released episodically in 2019, the game is now available in one easy bundle, taking you through five heart-pounding tales. In all of them, you take on the role of a detective investigating paranormal cases, taking you down the path of learning the trade of demonic exorcism.

Each case is individual, but their all interconnected. The overarching narrative then comes to an epic conclusion. Highly praised for its atmosphere and scares, The Exorcist: Legion VR has been enhanced for Meta Quest 3 to ensure it still holds up well today.

And there you have it, the best VR horror games you’ve likely never played. Or have you? Let us know in the comments which titles you were brave enough to experience. Or the VR horror game that deserves more attention!
