There have been some awesome VR game announcements for Meta Quest during the course of 2023. Upcoming titles like Asgard’s Wrath 2, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Assassin’s Creed Nexus should end the year with a bang. However, there’s still one game notably absent which Quest fans are eager to hear more about, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR. Meta Quest 3 officially launches tomorrow and with it a new era of mixed reality (MR) gaming. Some developers are upgrading current projects with better graphics, whilst others are adding MR components. One of the latest studios to do so is Kluge Interactive, teasing mixed reality support for its popular rhythm-action game Synth Riders.

Locomotion in virtual reality has always been a tricky, mixed endeavour. Over the years methods have evolved from fixed point-to-point teleportation to swinging your arms and even grappling hooks. The ideas that tend to work the best for a broad range of players are the ones that apply some physical movement to trick the brain. Gorilla Tag did this by simply allowing you to push off the virtual ground with your hands. Outta Hand, the latest title from Capricia Productions takes this theory a step further. As we find in our Quest 2 review, Outta Hand gets seriously handsy – in the right kind of way.

Cubism is one of the best puzzle games on Meta Quest, the brainchild of indie developer Thomas Van Bouwel. This past year Van Bowel has been teasing his latest project, a mixed-reality game evoking classic spy and heist movie scenarios of carefully navigating laser grids. Called Laser Dance, the game is now slated for a 2024 release on Meta Quest.

Schell Games is well known for its entertaining VR games like the I Expect You to Die series and Among Us VR. But the studio also knows a thing or two about edutainment, having previously released HoloLAB Champions and HistoryMaker VR. Its latest is a collaboration with the YouTube channel Kurzgesagt on Out of Scale: A Kurzgesagt Adventure.

Archiact, the VR developer behind original IPs such as FREEDIVER: Triton Down and Evasion has announced that its next project will arrive later this month. Called Journey to Foundation, the upcoming sci-fi adventure hits PSVR 2, Meta Quest 2 and PICO 4 on 26th October 2023.

During Meta’s Connect keynote in 2022, the company launched the Quest Pro and happened to mention Xbox Cloud Gaming. Nothing was heard of the feature until Connect this week, where CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the ability to play Xbox Games Pass games would finally arrive for Meta Quest 3 at the end of the year.

A couple of years ago, ARVORE released its colourful, anime-inspired roguelike Yuki. Players take control of the titular Yuki, energetically flying them around bullet-strewn virtual worlds. In October, that’s about to be enhanced, Yuki’s getting a mixed reality mode for all Meta Quest headsets.

One of the quirkier VR games we’re looking forward to this year is Wallace & Gromit: The Grand Getaway. Bringing the comedic claymation duo into virtual reality for the first time, it seems Aardman Animation and Atlas V are going one step further. During Meta Connect this week, it was revealed that the Wallace & Gromit game will feature a mixed-reality component for Meta Quest headsets including Quest 3.
