GTA: San Andreas VR Updates Still Nowhere to be Seen

There have been some awesome VR game announcements for Meta Quest during the course of 2023. Upcoming titles like Asgard’s Wrath 2, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Assassin’s Creed Nexus should end the year with a bang. However, there’s still one game notably absent which Quest fans are eager to hear more about, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR. Originally announced a couple of years ago, Meta is still refusing to reveal any further GTA: San Andreas VR updates.

In September the company held its annual Connect conference. This saw announcements for Meta Quest 3, new games and all the games getting upgrades for the new headset. Just like the Quest Gaming Showcase in the summer, details regarding GTA: San Andreas VR were expected. Even more so during Connect as it was the 2021 conference where Mark Zuckerberg made the original announcement.

No GTA: San Andreas VR Updates

During Connect, both Road to VR and UploadVR pressed Meta for further information regarding GTA: San Andreas VR. Both received a similar, short response. A Meta spokesperson told RtoVR “We don’t have any updates to share on GTA: San Andreas.“ Whilst Upload received a more curt response with “no comment”.

If you were hoping to play the open-world adventure on a shiny new headset this year then you’re definitely out of luck. Hopefully, the lack of information means work is ongoing with nothing to share, rather than the more ominous outcome of it being cancelled.

There could be another reason for the lack of information. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas officially launched way back in October 2004, making next year its 20th anniversary. Therefore, it wouldn’t be too much of a reach to expect a big reveal during Connect 2024, as the timing would be almost perfect.
