Gran Turismo 7 Will Support PSVR 2 at Launch

It’s CES this week in Las Vegas and Sony has just had its first major press conference of the year. In it, the company has revealed that next month’s PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) launch will have another title featured in the lineup, Gran Turismo 7.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) Jim Ryan revealed that PSVR 2 support will be available via a free upgrade. Few details were released regarding VR gameplay specifics or how the new motion controllers have been integrated. The press conference did showcase a very brief in-car gameplay video from Gran Turismo 7.

Released at the beginning of 2022, Gran Turismo 7 by Polyphony Digital has cemented itself as one of the best in the series. It has been well-received by critics and fans alike. So having VR support will only add another benefit to the experience.

In addition to Gran Turismo 7, Ryan also teased another title coming to the virtual reality headset. The super popular rhythm action game Beat Saber is getting the PSVR 2 treatment. No details were given regarding a release date, if this would be a straight port or whether Beat Games had something new in-store. The original Beat Saber has been released on about every VR device imaginable. Such is the popularity of its gameplay mechanics and roster of popular music artists.

PSVR 2 is set to launch on 22nd February, retailing for £529.99 GBP ($549.99 USD). Almost seven years after the release of the original PSVR, this new model will still be cabled to PlayStation 5. But it’ll feature major improvements such as inside-out tracking, headset haptics, eye tracking and 4k resolution.
