Feardemic held its new Fear Fest event this week, celebrating all things horror. As part of the show was the Horror Games Awards featuring 13 categories as well as a lifetime achievement award. There was a VR/AR section which had some excellent contenders, but at the end of the day, Capcom’s Resident Evil Village came out victorious.
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Is VR’s Most Powerful IP
Let’s face it, virtual reality (VR) is still a long way off from competing with flatscreen gaming in terms of numbers. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be innovative whilst attracting blockbuster IPs to attract new players. Franchises like Star Wars, Ghostbusters, and The Walking Dead have all found a natural home in VR. But these all come from movie and TV backgrounds. However, as Capcom’s Kazuhiro Takahara mentions in a recent interview, Mercenaries Mode for Resident Evil Village on PSVR 2 isn’t happening.

This is slightly annoying because I wasn’t going to buy it. Not that I wanted it to be rubbish, just that I’ve played Resi 4 a lot, and it’s great. Therefore, can a remake really draw me back in? More importantly, can it do enough differently considering the excellent VR version?
