The Best PSVR 2 Games of 2023

PSVR 2 Review

Posted on: 25 Dec 2023

Sony launched PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) in February 2023, a whole seven years after the original. And what a headset it turned out to be. Far simpler to set up with only one cable to the PS5, the PSVR 2 also boasted a range of advanced features – some that don’t appear on any other device. These have allowed developers to release a bevvy of awesome titles. So here are XR Source’s Best PSVR 2 Games of 2023.

Best PSVR 2 Games

PSVR 2 started strong at the beginning of the year with a decent collection of launch games. The summer was naturally much quieter although some interesting arrivals did take place. The final couple of months have seen a surge of new VR experiences to enjoy. Ensuring owners have plenty to keep them busy into the new year.

Resident Evil Village VR Mode

While Resident Evil Village isn’t a 2023 game, its VR mode most certainly is. It was one of the games that graced PSVR 2’s launch roster. It was a difficult decision as to whether we included Resi Village on this list or the newly released Resident Evil 4 VR Mode. But, just like The Game Awards, it was the adventure into Castle Dimitrescu that we favourited.

In VR Resident Evil Village comes alive with the Sense controllers helping you experience the world like never before. If you love horror and recently got a PSVR 2, add this to your want list.

Another PSVR 2 launch title, Horizon Call of the Mountain was the game to sell the headset. Set in the same universe as Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) and Horizon Forbidden West (2022) the VR edition is separate, featuring its own unique storyline.

You join an expedition to investigate a new mystery regarding the machines, with a brand-new world to explore. Climb mountainous peaks, expertly hunt with your bow and encounter fantastical creatures as you head out on this stunning adventure.

Arizona Sunshine 2

Next up we have Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine 2. The original zombie shooter game came out in 2016 and was hugely popular. Arizona Sunshine 2 continues the adventure with new features, more guns, hordes of undead and lashings of gore.

There’s a single-player campaign, a co-op mode to bring a friend along and a 4-player Horde mode. Plenty going on! Filled with head-popping action, Arizona Sunshine 2 also introduces Buddy, your four-legged friend. Buddy’s great for attacking zombies when you’re reloading or for fetching useful items.

PSVR 2 Trophies Synapse

Synapse

nDreams is a veteran of the VR industry and that showed in its summer title, Synapse. Set in an abstract world that’s mostly black and white with occasional flourishes of colour, Synapse features gameplay that combines brutal firepower with surging telekinetic abilities.

It’s a PSVR 2 exclusive so you can’t play it anywhere else. Furthermore, Synapse is a non-stop rollercoaster ride of action sequences that showcase the immersive power of VR.

Walkabout Mini Golf - Bogeys Bonanza

Walkabout Mini Golf

The best mini-golf game you can buy, nuff said…

No seriously, Mighty Coconut’s Walkabout Mini Golf is packed full of excellent courses, secrets to find and features an 8-player private room mode. Hours and hours of entertainment for all the family, or those that are super competitive.

PSVR 2 Trophies: Red Matter 2 image1

Red Matter 2

Some sequels don’t always do the originals justice, but Red Matter 2 is a shining example of when they do. A stunning experience set in space, Red Matter 2’s narrative takes place during a dystopian Cold War, where one faction has developed reality-bending technology that could have grave consequences for humanity.

Sent to uncover these secrets, most of the gameplay revolves around solving environmental, physics, and logic-based puzzles, utilising a jet pack and zero-g environments along the way. This sequel also introduces a new mechanic, combat, adding short action sequences to mix the gameplay up.

It might not be very festive but if you like jump scares and mini-games then Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 is for you. Step into the horrifying world of Fazbear Entertainment’s pizzeria, which features six categories of minigames, Backstage, Fazcade, Staff Only, Food Prep, and Ticket Booth. The sixth one – for the first time – offers new VR versions of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location‘s games.
