The 7 Best VR Mech Games

Underdogs

Posted on: 07 Jun 2025

Gundam, Pacific Rim, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Transformers, heck, even Robot Wars and BattleBots, we all love huge mechs fighting each other. It gets even better if you can strap yourself in and pilot a colossal war machine. Thankfully, in virtual reality, you can. So here is XRSource’s selection of the best VR mech games out there.

The Best VR Mech Games

Mech games tend to fall into a very narrow selection of genres, mainly lots of action and carnage. Because why would you want to do anything in a hulking war machine? It’s hardly designed for gardening or trying to dance to a beat. Nope, guns and destruction are where it’s at for most of the listed games.

Below you’ll find titles (in no particular order) highlighting VR mech games from across the board. Playable across a variety of VR headsets, including PC VR, PSVR 2 and Meta Quest headsets.

Ultimechs image1

Ultimechs

Let’s start with a mech game that’s not all about blasting opponents to smithereens. Ultimechs from Resolution Games is a competitive multiplayer game all about scoring goals. Think Rocket League but with robots. Free on supported platforms like Steam, Ultimechs can be played solo, but it’s the 2v2 mode where most of the action takes place.

Pick your mech and then unleash your rocket-powered fists (GauntJets) to control the ball and try to score a goal. Or use said fists against opponents if that seems more strategic. You can control your fists remotely, making for some fast and furious gameplay. Plus, you can customise your mech with accessories, paints, and new GauntJet trails.

Best VR Mech Games - Vox Machinae

Vox Machinae

Undoubtedly one of the most popular mech games in VR, Vox Machinae has it all. In Early Access for a number of years before its official release in 2022, Vox Machinae boasts a solid single-player campaign as well as multiplayer modes.

Called ‘Grinders’, the mechs can be operated either via normal joystick controls or via the physical levers and handles found inside the cockpit. The interplanetary solo campaign is fun and gives you a good feel for the various control schemes. But it’s the team-based multiplayer modes where the action really ramps up, where up to 16 players can go head-to-head. Vox Machinae features 7 customizable Grinder chassis, with an array of lasers, missiles, cannons and more to unlock and swap between.

Underdogs

Underdogs

From the team that brought you Racket Nx comes a very different type of mech game. Rather than ranged artillery synonymous with battlefield mechs, Underdogs is a gritty, no-holds-barred brawler. Step into deadly arenas in a five-ton battle suit and smash your way through an assortment of robot enemies.

Physicality is at the heart of Underdogs, upgrading your mech with a myriad of items and power tools to give you the edge.

Iron Rebellion - image1

Iron Rebellion

Finding success as a Steam Early Access title, before its official PCVR and Meta Quest launch a few months ago, Iron Rebellion is pure multiplayer goodness. Fast-paced, arcade battles are its bread and butter, where players can wage war across several battlefields and gameplay modes.

Continually updated since its release in 2021, developer Black Beach Studio has expanded the map selection, added AI mechs, expanded the arsenal and more. And like any good mech game designed for VR, sitting in the cockpit surrounded by buttons and levers, they all work to provide that unique sense of immersion.

Mecha Force

Mecha Force

Mixing mech power with roguelike gameplay and stylish Japanese aesthetics is Mech Force. Fight through an action-packed single-player campaign, learning new skills and tactics as you go. Faced with an assortment of massive Kaiju monsters and alien invaders, you’ll need to carefully consider which artillery and melee weapons you take into battle.

Lots of fun to be had for all mech fans alike.

Best VR Mech Games - Zone of the Enders

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner

A Konami classic that was remastered in 4K whilst adding VR support in 2018. Produced by none other than Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding), this was a PlayStation 2 game originally.

Step into a JEHUTY Orbital Frame and take on the despotic BAHRAM military organisation. There’s plenty of relentless action here, and fans who remember the original should love it. Like many flatscreen ports in VR, the controls can be a bit awkward and show their age in comparison to newer mech titles.

Best VR Mech Games - World of Mechs

World of Mechs

Just like Iron Rebellion, World of Mechs is multiplayer-focused. Unlike its rival, there are no in-cockpit controls, as you need to keep your eye on the battlefield and not the pretty interior.

Featuring online modes like Team Deathmatch and Domination, World of Mechs is a Meta Quest 2/Quest Pro exclusive. You can unlock 32 mechs across 8 different class types with an abundance of upgrades, including weapons, radar jammers and stealth cloaking to play with. Don’t let the simpler Quest 2 visuals fool you, this can be a riot with a group of mates.

And there you have it. That wraps up our picks of the seven best VR mech games! What are your thoughts? Which ones did we miss? Let us know in the comments below!
