Best VR Games of 2025

Posted on: 05 Jul 2025

It’s been an interesting year for VR games. We’ve had truly unique and original titles that wonder and amaze, big IPs with so-so success, and games that have downright been almost unplayable. Focusing on the positive, XRSource has compiled what we think are the best VR games of 2025 (so far).

The criteria were simple, it didn’t matter whether the game was on Meta Quest, PSVR 2, Pico or SteamVR, the game needed to be good and released in 2025, that’s it.

On this page:

Arken Age

Arriving for PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets on Steam at the beginning of 2025 was Arken Age. From
VitruviusVR (Mervils: A VR Adventure, Shadow Legend VR), Arken Age was the team’s biggest and most well-received project to date.

A huge action-adventure game set in a terraformed fantasy world called the Bio-Chasm, it’s a game that plays to VR’s strengths. With fully implemented physics combat, Arken Age delivers a satisfying journey through a gloriously detailed and vibrant world. Its single-player campaign offers combat versatility via a myriad of gun and sword combos, the ability to customise the weaponry and craft essential survival items.

All whilst being able to freely jump, climb, and swim throughout the world. If you’re a fan of epic VR adventures, Arken Age should not be missed.

Crystal Commanders

We love a good real-time strategy (RTS) game here at XRSource, and 2025 served up a classic in the form of Crystal Commanders for Meta Quest. Developed by DB Creations, Crystal Commanders is a colourful take on the genre. You can build bases and troops to fight AI enemies in the campaign and skirmish modes. Or take on a real threat in the multiplayer mode.

Crystal Commanders‘ hook is that you can choose whether to battle in VR or mixed reality. While the VR mode keeps things simple and functional, in MR you get a lot more verticality. With objects around your room, like furniture brought into play, the placement of buildings and the collection of resources become far more varied. If you have a Quest and love RTS games, give this one a look.

Ghost Town

For those after a solid, narrative-driven experience in VR, look no further than Ghost Town. This is a VR puzzle adventure from the veterans at Fireproof Games (The Room VR: A Dark Matter) where you step into the shoes of Edith, a paranormal detective, searching for her brother.

If you’ve played any of the fantastic The Room series, you’ll know the type of intricate puzzles the studio is known for. Combined with magical gameplay and an engrossing storyline, Ghost Town will keep you captivated from start to finish.

GORN 2

Are you looking for all-out bloody carnage in VR? GORN 2 is most definitely the game for that. The original GORN was a gladiatorial, slapstick, blood fest, and yet its successor has somehow managed to outdo it! There’s a light narrative following on from the first game, where you’re now in heaven, battling all the foes you killed in the last game.

The wobbly, excessive caricature violence is on maximum overdrive, with fountains of the red stuff pouring from heads and limbs. There are more environmental hazards for you to use to your advantage, new weapons and new enemies as well. GORN 2 is physical, outrageous and a lot of fun.

Hitman World of Assassination

Hitman World of Assassination

Okay, so technically, Hitman World of Assassination is a 2023 game, but we have good reasons for its inclusion. Firstly, what we’re talking about here is the PSVR 2 VR update that arrived on 27th March from IO Interactive. This added lots of new features over the original PSVR edition for PS4, most importantly, adding proper motion controller support. Furthermore, it righted a lot of the wrongs of HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded for Meta Quest, an addition plagued with bugs.

If you’re a fan of the Hitman franchise and always longed for a decent VR offering, you now have it on PSVR 2.

The Midnight Walk

When it comes to originality in VR, MoonHood Studios certainly deserves that crown in 2025. The team released The Midnight Walk for PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets in May, delivering a dark adventure designed entirely with claymation models.

Notable for its handcrafted aesthetic, The Midnight Walk is a story-driven experience where players embody a mysterious figure called ‘The Burnt One’. Explore a nighmarish landscape filled with horrific creatures that must be outsmarted and hidden from to survive. This mixes horror and heartfelt storytelling in one.

The Smurfs – Flower Defense

Lastly, XRSource has the cutest of the bunch! The lovable Smurfs are back in another video game, and their first in VR. The Smurfs – Flower Defense is a mixed reality tower defence game for Meta Quest headsets.

The evil sorcerer Gargamel has ruined the day and kidnapped several of the villagers. To get them back, you need to mount a strong defence against waves of dangerous insects, placing towers and using special abilities to your advantage. Get for all ages, don’t let The Smurfs – Flower Defense fool you into thinking this is just for a younger audience. The gameplay is very dynamic as the levels progress, ensuring this is no walk in the park for VR veterans.

And that’s XRSource’s pick of the Best VR Games of 2025 (so far). What do you think? Do you agree with the selection, or did we miss a crucial title off the list? Let us know in the comments!
