Take a look through XR Source’s Best VR Puzzle Games list and you’ll find The Room VR: A Dark Matter. Originally released back in 2020 for multiple platforms – including PlayStation VR – the title is an excellent adaption of Fireproof Games’ The Room series. This week, the studio confirmed that The Room VR: A Dark Matter is on its way to PSVR 2.
If you’ve not played any of the series, The Room originally began as a mobile franchise. Players would have to solve a selection of evermore convoluted puzzle boxes, whilst a mysterious narrative unravelled around them. The Room VR: A Dark Matter kept the same mystery, fantastical gadgets and otherworldly events, whilst placing you in early 20th Century London. An esteemed Egyptologist has disappeared and you need to find out why.
The Room VR on PSVR 2
Fireproof Games announced on its Twitter that The Room VR: A Dark Matter will be available for PSVR 2 from 27th July 2023. The studio has confirmed that if you already own the PlayStation 4 edition for PSVR, you’ll get a free upgrade to the PSVR 2 version.
The PSVR 2 edition is set to offer a few upgrades over the original. The studio has created higher-resolution assets to make the visuals look even better. Plus they added rumble support, although it’s unclear if this is the PSVR 2’s headset haptics.
A multi-award-winning franchise, The Room VR: A Dark Matter garnered its own set of accolades and rave reviews. While the games have evolved over the years, the core principle of engaging puzzles remains. This time, in VR you get to be inside the entire experience!
The Room VR: A Dark Matter also supports Quest platforms, PICO, SteamVR and Viveport-compatible headsets.
