Most Anticipated VR Games Coming 2024

2023 has been quite the year for VR gaming. Huge IPs have landed, exciting sequels finally saw the light of day and headset exclusives aplenty. But with the year drawing to a close, it is time to look forward to what’s coming. VR studios have announced all manner of projects set to arrive in the next twelve months. So here are XR Source’s most anticipated VR games of 2024.

Most Anticipated 2024 VR Games

There were plenty of upcoming VR games to choose from, whether you love action-adventures, atmospheric horror, puzzle titles or titles just slightly madder than the rest. Some of those selected are projects that were initially scheduled for 2023 but couldn’t quite manage it. Others have only just been revealed, going straight onto our wishlists.

In any case, the games selected aren’t for one particular platform. We love all things VR, whether the games are on Meta Quest, PSVR 2 or PCVR headsets.

Skydance’s Behemoth

Starting us off is Skydance’s Behemoth. From the same team behind The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners this original IP was originally due in 2023. Skydance Interactive pushed the multiplatform, action-adventure back into late 2024 with no reason as to why.

Even so, were still super excited for Skydance’s Behemoth, even with only a couple of visuals and a brief synopsis. You play a wanderer exploring a plague-ravaged land, filled with nightmarish abominations. The main hook comes for the colossal giants you’ll have to face, climbing atop these beasts to bring them down. We imagine a solo campaign with hints of Elden Ring, Skyrim and Ico.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable

Another delayed game but this time one attached to a major IP. Attack on Titan is a huge anime franchise and one that has a great deal of potential for exciting gameplay. Again, just like Behemoth, very little is known regarding Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable. Being developed by Japanese studio UNIVRS Inc., all that’s been shown so far is some pre-rendered action, no actual gameplay.

You’ll be hunting titans, of course, using your Omni Directional Mobility Gear to take these giant beasts down. Alongside a normal solo campaign, Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable will give you the option to team up with a friend. Even if you’re not an Attack on Titan fan, this should be one to watch.

Own a Quest 2 - Stranger Things

Stranger Things VR

Continuing the big franchise delay theme is Stranger Things VR. A Meta Quest exclusive, Stranger Things VR was due for release on 30th November 2023. Now set to arrive in February, the VR game offers an interesting twist, you play as the bad guy.

That’s right, rather than stepping into the shoes of Eleven or the rest of the gang you embody Vecna. Continuing Vecna’s plan for revenge, you’ll be able to: “invade the dreams and memories of fan-favourite characters and harness telekinetic powers to possess minds and battle creatures.” Fans of the TV show will learn new secrets regarding Vecna’s influence over past seasons. We can’t wait!

MADiSON VR

We’d have loved to play MADiSON VR at Halloween but it just wasn’t to be. Due for release at some point in 2024 for PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets, MADiSON VR is a VR port of 2022’s flatscreen edition. The PC and console game has been very well received, serving up a terrifying psychological horror experience. So in VR that should be even more spine-tingling!

The story revolves around Luca, who you discover has been captured by a demon that is forcing him to continue a gory ritual started decades ago, making him commit abominable acts. Developer Bloodious Games has confirmed the port will feature full motion controls to properly immerse you in the maddening chaos.

Taskmaster VR

Time for something a lot lighter and not delayed. We give you Taskmaster VR, a game within a gameshow, that is, in fact, a real British TV show that’s been running for 16-odd seasons. Helmed by comedians Greg Davies and Alex Horne, they’ll both be lending their vocal talents to the game which is due to hit Meta Quest and PCVR at an undisclosed date in 2024.

In Taskmaster VR you’ll have to complete a series of challenges built around skill, patience, precision and grace. Just like the show, expect utter lunacy throughout and plenty of laughs along the way. We’re big fans of the show so we might be slightly biased.

Bulletstorm VR

Those looking for non-stop arcade action should keep an eye out for Bulletstorm VR. Due to be released for PSVR 2, Meta Quest and SteamVR on 18th January 2024, the original Bulletstorm was an Xbox 360 game from 2011.

You’ll be putting on the ass-kicking boots of former Dead Echo Squad Leader, Grayson Hunt, who finds himself on the abandoned resort planet of Stygia. Filled with comically violent carnage, the gameplay is all about performing Skillshots via evermore creative kills. Use your arsenal of weapons and the environment to make that happen.

Mannequin keyart

Mannequin

Lastly, we have Mannequin from Fast Travel Games. Revealed a few months ago for Meta Quest, PCVR and PSVR 2, Mannequin is an asymmetric multiplayer VR game for up to five players.

We’re yet to see any gameplay so far with concept art being the only imagery released. An extraterrestrial presence has come to Earth, freezing time at sites around the globe. Players either take the role of an alien Mannequin or as a human special forces Agent. XR Source is expecting a simultaneous launch given the multiplayer aspect of the game. Plus, with games like Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife and Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice under its belt, were expecting good things from the studio.

And that’s XR Source’s selection of our most anticipated VR games due to arrive in 2024. Don’t forget to check out our Best PSVR 2 Games and Best Meta Quest Games of 2023.
