The Best Meta Quest Games of 2023

Quest 2 and Quest 3

Posted on: 24 Dec 2023

It has been an interesting 12 months for Meta and its Quest headsets. The most popular VR device, Quest 2, has now been superseded by the Quest 3, bringing with it new mixed reality possibilities. And a year after launch the Quest Pro is both the flagship and runt of the trio. But what about the games? We’ve enjoyed spending countless hours in VR this year and it’s been a tough choice. So here are XR Source’s Best Meta Quest Games of 2023.

Best Meta Quest Games

We always love doing these lists as it’s a great excuse to go back and replay the games. We are refreshing the memory and once again sparking that excitement as to our love of VR. Some of the games below aren’t going to surprise you. They’re big hitters with plenty of action, great immersive interaction and compelling narratives. Hopefully, though, a few may surprise you. Maybe they passed you by or weren’t to your liking. Either way, give every title here a look at, at some point.

Asgard’s Wrath 2

One of the newest titles here, Asgard’s Wrath 2 arrived on 15th December. Undoubtedly the biggest first-party title to arrive this year, this long-awaited sequel builds upon the Oculus Rift original. Boasting over 100 hours of content, this time around you’re now a Cosmic Guardian chasing Loki across the universe to put a stop to his antics.

If you’ve bought a Meta Quest 3 then you already own Asgard’s Wrath 2, enjoying its mix of puzzles and physical combat. If you’re on Quest 2 or Quest Pro and want a huge single-player adventure, Asgard’s Wrath 2 should not be missed.

Another huge sequel on this list is Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine 2. The original game came out in 2016 and was hugely popular. Arizona Sunshine 2 continues the zombie adventure with more guns, undead and gore – if that’s even possible.

There’s a single-player campaign, a co-op mode to bring a friend along and a 4-player Horde mode. Plenty going on! Filled with head-popping action, Arizona Sunshine 2 also introduces Buddy, your four-legged friend. Buddy’s great for attacking zombies when you’re reloading or for fetching useful items.

Another one from Vertigo Games, The 7th Guest VR brings a 90s puzzle adventure into the modern era. With a chilling story about an evil toy maker and his mysterious mansion, you find yourself taking part in a ghoulish game. There are no jump scares here, just plenty of spooky atmosphere and lots of fun puzzles to solve.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice

Coming from the World of Darkness universe is Fast Travel Games’ Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice. Step into the shoes of Justice, a vampire seeking revenge for the murder of his sire. Set within the iconic city of Venice, you can deploy a range of abilities depending on whether you prefer staying hidden or prefer a more direct approach.

As we said in our review: “If you’re looking for an atmospheric single-player adventure then you can’t go too far wrong with Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice. Being a vampire has never been so much fun, with plenty of lore to keep immersed in the fantasy world.”

I Expect You To Die 3 Review screenshot1

I Expect You To Die 3: A Cog in the Machine

Schell Games’ I Expect You To Die 3 was one of XR Source’s most anticipated VR games of 2023. If you’ve not played the previous entries, the series is styled around escaped room puzzles. You play a secret agent constantly trying to thwart the mysterious and villainous Dr. Zor, who wants to take over the world.

I Expect You To Die 3: A Cog in the Machine is filled with innovative puzzles and a comedic narrative that’s enjoyable from start to finish. There’s no locomotion involved and it’s entirely seated, so it’s great for all player levels. I Expect You To Die 3 might be the shortest game on this list but that doesn’t ruin the fun.

Assassins Creed Nexus Out Now screenshot1

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR

There have been several major IPs landing on VR headsets this year. One of the most iconic is Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR from Ubisoft. A brand new Assassin’s Creed game built for VR rather than a port, this time around, rather than playing as one singular character on a mission against Abstergo, you embody three. The campaign is played across three separate eras, uncovering new memories from Ezio Auditore, Kassandra, and Connor.

Explore Renaissance Italy, Ancient Greece, and Colonial America using all the skills of the assassin guild. Leap between rooftops and then launch attacks on unsuspecting foes with your hidden blade. Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR continues Ubisoft’s high bar in VR gaming.

Breachers

For those looking for pure multiplayer action, there’s Breachers. A 5v5 multiplayer shooter where one team starts as defenders (Revolters) trying to protect a bomb site. The other team are the attackers (Enforcers), who want to disarm the bomb. Each team has specialist tools for the job, alongside the usual assortment of pistols, SMGs, shotguns and assault rifles.

If you’ve got a few mates who love VR, then get them into Breachers.

And that’s XR Source’s best Meta Quest games selection for 2023. Did we pick your favourites or leave a crucial one-off? Let us know in the comments below.
