December’s VR videogame schedule isn’t looking as abundant as November’s. Now next month is one title lighter as the raucous Bulletstorm VR has been officially delayed by a month.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), developer People Can Fly and Incuvo said:
“We know that Bulletstorm fans are eager to put on their VR headsets and kick ass in virtual reality. We aim to use this extra time to continue improving the experience to ensure that Bulletstorm VR lives up to the high standards you’ve come to expect from the well-known AAA FPS franchise and People Can Fly as a developer of high-quality AAA games.”
Thankfully, the delay isn’t too long. Bulletstorm VR will instead be released for PSVR 2, Meta Quest and SteamVR on 18th January 2024.
Kicking up a storm
People Can Fly is the original Bulletstorm developer whilst Incuvo is the VR specialist. The studio is behind the port of Green Hell VR. Taking what made the flatscreen version great whilst adding some immersive VR flavour, Incuvo says:
“Back in 2011, Bulletstorm introduced the world to the “Skillshot.” Kick an enemy into a cactus? Skillshot. Crush one under a hot dog cart? Skillshot. Grab one with your Energy Leash and fling ‘em into a burner? Definitely a skill shot. Skillshots new and old, as well as the action-packed story—all of it recreated from the ground up to take advantage of VR.”
Once again players will be putting on the ass-kicking boots of former Dead Echo Squad Leader, Grayson Hunt. Crashing onto the abandoned resort planet of Stygia, players utilise their arsenal and the environment to unleash comically violent carnage.
Bulletstorm VR isn’t alone in having to be delayed. MADiSON VR, Vertigo 2 for PSVR 2, and Tiger Blade for PSVR 2 are just some of the titles that have required more development time.
