If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times: horror games work exceptionally well in VR. You can check out some of the best VR horror games here, and don’t forget about these gems as well. But that’s looking into the past, and with the season of scares already kicking in, these are the Halloween VR horrors to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
Halloween VR Horrors to Die For

Maid of Sker VR
Wales Interactive surprised everyone this October by announcing a VR port of Maid of Sker. Due to launch in November for Meta Quest, PSVR 2, and PC VR headsets on Steam, Maid of Sker VR is now high up on our horror wishlist.
The 2020 flatscreen edition proved to be highly popular, with the story themed around a Welsh folktale. The game is set in 1898, with players finding themselves in a remote hotel with a gory and macabre history. Very much a stealthy horror experience, in Maid of Sker VR, players possess a defensive sound device to use against “sound-based” enemies known as The Quiet Ones.

Trenches VR
Another stealthy horror game for headsets this season is Trenches VR. From the team at Steelkrill Studio, here you find yourself exploring the damp, dark trenches of WWI. However, it’s not enemy soldiers you need to be wary of here. Instead, horrifying creatures lurk in the dark, and you need to find a way out before they find you.
With no weapons to rely on, all you have is your trusty Trench Whistle. This is both a blessing and a curse, as the sound will help you find freedom, and help the monsters find you. Should they do so, you’ll have to start over, with the procedurally generated levels making each run unique.
Trenches VR will launch for PSVR 2, Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets on 22nd October 2025.

Star Trek: Infection
Adding some sci-fi horror flavour to 2025 is Star Trek: Infection. Star Trek games don’t tend to focus on terror and fear, so this is a welcome divergence for the franchise. As a Vulcan Starfleet officer, you board the U.S.S. Lumen only to find it mysteriously abandoned. You then find something sentient and sinister has taken over the ship, and worse still, you.
And so begins a psychological and physical nightmare that you can either fight or embrace. The infection grants you new, powerful abilities with which to explore the ship and find answers. However, these newfound skills aren’t exactly stable.
Star Trek: Infection is slated to arrive in 2025 for Meta Quest 3 & 3S. So hopefully there’s not too long to wait.

BlackGate
A lot of horror games tend to be single-player purely because you’re easier to scare on your own. If you want to share those scares with friends, give Fun Train’s BlackGate a try. Available now for Meta Quest 3/3S, BlackGate is a 4vs1 shooter set in a crumbling space station. If you imagine Lone Echo crossed with Among Us and Cosmodread, you’ll be getting close.
Four players get to slip into space suits and float around the station, fixing issues by solving puzzles. The only problem, the fifth player is a deadly alien intent on killing everyone. Players can split up to solve the puzzles faster, but that does leave them open to attack. This is one Halloween party you won’t forget.

Memoreum
This selection of Halloween VR horrors isn’t in any particular order of favouritism. But if we had to pick one for the highly anticipated top spot, it would be Memoreum. Another spaceship-based horror game, this has Dead Space vibes all over it.
You know what to expect: this is action-horror where you have to fight through countless monsters who were once crew members. Claustrophobic corridors, lots of guns, and scary creatures should be fun.
Memoreum is set to hit Meta Quest and PCVR (Steam) on 9th October 2025.

Scared By Squares
Last but not least is the creepy exploration game Scared By Squares. No monsters, no spaceships, just lots of cubes. A kind of walking simulator similar to Pools VR where you explore liminal spaces, Scared By Squares is a bizarre world of irregular cubes.
There’s a narrative where you’re a prisoner sent into the Cube, a digital prison that’s behaving rather strangely. You’ve not been told what dangers lurk inside, but you’re expendable and that’s that. Scared By Squares will be available for Meta Quest on 9th October 2025, and will likely take the crown as the most bizarre VR horror of the year.
Let us know which is your favourite of our Halloween VR horrors in the comments.
