What is Scared by Squares?

Scared by Squares is a surreal and immersive VR horror game. Rather than relying on traditional jump scares, the game envelopes players in surreal, cube‑shaped environments that operate on eerie logic. You are challenged to explore these eerie environments filled with lurking AI-driven threats. Far from the overdone haunted house trope, this title places players in unsettling, liminal spaces – geometrically repetitive and visually jarring locations where nothing feels quite right.

As the world slowly unravels around you, both sight and sound become tools, and threats. Players must listen carefully, observe anomalies, and navigate cautiously to survive the psychological tension that defines the experience.

AI-Driven Horror

In Scared by Squares, every room and corridor is a puzzle of its own. You’ll navigate maze-like, cubic spaces where danger can lurk around any corner. Secrets are buried deep within the level design, rewarding those who explore thoroughly.

The game leans into psychological horror. Instead of cheap jump scares, the game builds dread through sound design, visual dissonance, and player vulnerability. It’s a slow-burn descent into madness, where the world bends in subtly horrifying ways. Enemies and anomalies are controlled by adaptive AI. Unlike scripted scares, these threats patrol, stalk, and react dynamically to your presence, amplifying the tension and keeping each playthrough unpredictable.

Scared by Squares uses directional, 3D spatial audio to create unease. Distorted ambient loops, sudden sound cues, and distant threats push players to rely on hearing as much as sight.
