Digital Lode’s Espire 2 seems to be going from strength-to-strength. As a testament to its continued commitment to support growing community of Espire Agents, developer Digital Lode has shared the first details on the latest Espire 2 content update. Available now on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro platforms, this update introduces the fan favorite Weekly Challenges, Leaderboards, and more.

Espire 2 is a stealth action VR game, in which players pilot droids called “Frames”. These frames give the super spies the advantage of conducting espionage remotely from the safety of the Control Theatre. Not too shabby. However, in the year 2036, espionage has changed. Don’t expect the enemy you’re infiltrating to take it lying down.

The game has benefitted from numerous updates since it’s launch. This latest, known as ‘1.5 Update’, brings a variety of new features to the game. As presented by publisher Tripwire Presents, the new Espire 2 content update features:

  • Weekly Challenges & Leaderboards: Back by popular demand, the fan favorite Weekly Challenges and Leaderboards from Espire 1: VR Operative return in Espire 2. Each week, players can expect new curated challenges from the developers, designed to test players skills and mettle as they compete with other players for the top score across the new leaderboard system.
  • Matchmaking Improvements: Matchmaking has been improved to ensure the best latency possible by connecting players with others closer to their location. For Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro owners, Matchmaking searches will no longer attempt to match players with accounts the user has previously blocked.
  • Mixed Reality Mode: The 1.5 update also introduces significant under-the-hood improvements to Espire 2’s technical systems, including upgrading from Unreal Engine version 4.26 to 4.27 and switching the graphics API from OpenGL to Vulkan. The result: Espire 2 will run more smoothly with higher visual fidelity on all platforms. These changes will also pave the way for the recently announced Mixed Reality Mode, coming to Espire 2 later this year.
