It’s fair to say that VR horror fans should be in their element at this moment. Not only have we seen an abundance of games arrive in the past few months, but there are even more on the way. The latest to be announced comes from indie studio Rustmourne Team, with their self-titled sci-fi survival horror game Rustmourne.

PCVR Survival Horror
Unveiled for the first time during the UploadVR Summer Showcase, Rustmourne is a survival horror that’s solely focused on PCVR. Set within the corridors of an ancient, colossal station drifting through space, players have to face all manner of abominations as they explore. While nothing has been revealed regarding the narrative and what this structure actually is, the gameplay is likely to be familiar to those who love this genre.
As the team puts it: “We take inspiration from Dead Space (clearly), Half-Life: Alyx and Doom 3. We are working hard to make a kickass game centered around atmosphere, vibes and tension.” That means fighting enemies with a range of weapons, and most importantly, dismembering them with a carefully placed shot.
In development since 2023, Rustmourne currently doesn’t have a release window. So it’s unclear how close to completion the game actually is. It’s available to wishlist on Steam now.
Rustmourne Features
Dead Space has inspired a great number of horror games both in VR and on flat screen. While the likes of Memoreum went for the atmospheric element, Rustmourne is taking a more direct approach with its dismemberment system. The developer has confirmed that you’ll be able to do more than simply cut off a few limbs, being able to slow them, blind them, or cripple them. Each enemy will behave differently once you do start this process, mostly to your benefit, but sometimes not.
The survival horror will feature an arsenal of original, custom-made weapons to play with. All designed with VR in mind, these will range from pistol-type weapons through to flamethrowers and more.
Of course, ammo isn’t in plentiful supply, so you have to pick your battles carefully. You can take a stealth approach rather than going in guns blazing, staying quiet so enemies can’t hear you. Furthermore, the environment can be equally useful and deadly, when you need it to be.
Scream Some More
Rustmourne is just one of several VR horror games XRSource is looking forward to. In recent weeks, Into The Dead: Crimson Heights has been revealed for Meta Quest and SteamVR. Unseen will kick off a horror anthology this summer, and psychological horror Order 13 VR is expected in late 2026.
And that’s not to mention the likes of Star Trek: Infection, Memoreum, Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic VR and Evil Inside VR, which are already available.
