A couple of years ago, ARVORE released its colourful, anime-inspired roguelike Yuki. Players take control of the titular Yuki, energetically flying them around bullet-strewn virtual worlds. In October, that’s about to be enhanced, Yuki’s getting a mixed reality mode for all Meta Quest headsets.

It’s astonishing to think that videogames have existed for over 40 years. And that in their infancy they were no more than a few lines on a screen. One of the most iconic companies to emerge from those early years was Atari, dominating the landscape in the ’70s and ’80s. Atari might not be the company that it once was, but ARVORE’s latest Pixel Ripped instalment harks back to those simpler times. The third game in the franchise, Pixel Ripped 1978 is a title full of nostalgia, and interesting ideas, yet doesn’t quite have the same magic as its predecessors.

Atari and Brazil-based VR developer ARVORE have added new localisation features to VR-exclusive Pixel Ripped 1978. Launched last month, the retro-themed adventure game is available on SteamVR, PSVR 2, and Meta Quest 2.

Pixel Ripped 1978 Debuts in June
The latest instalment of Ana Ribero’s hugely successful Pixel Ripped series is set to arrive next month. The VR exclusive series plots the adventures of Dot, a fictional video game hero. The series has thus far spanned the 8-bit and 32/64-bit eras, with Pixel Ripped 1978 taking us back even further.
