Pixel Ripped 1978 Debuts in June

The latest instalment of Ana Ribero’s hugely successful Pixel Ripped series is set to arrive next month. The VR exclusive series plots the adventures of Dot, a fictional video game hero. The series has thus far spanned the 8-bit and 32/64-bit eras, with Pixel Ripped 1978 taking us back even further.

The series has thus far spawned three titles. The original Pixel Ripped 1989, a sequel in Pixel Ripped 1995 and a spin-off known as On the Road. Such is the success of these titles that Pixel Ripped 1978 has caught the attention of none other than Atari. A perfect collaboration maybe, as Pixel Ripped 1978 features game sequences inspired by the likes of Yars’ Revenge and Crystal Castles.

The game will also feature an “authentic recreation of the fabled Sunnyvale Atari studio,” according to ARVORE. Along with plenty of other Atari Easter Eggs.

Pixel Ripped 1978 Release Date

Developed by award-winning VR studio ARVORE, the game is set in an alternate universe 1970s. The video game revolution is about to erupt, and Atari is front and center.

The game’s protagonist, Bug, is an early Atari game designer and programmer who has a unique ability to travel into the games she’s making to work out bugs and glitches from the inside. A cool job at Atari quickly goes haywire when the game she’s working on, Pixel Ripped, gets hacked, turning classic Atari characters into ghastly foes. Bug joins forces with her own superhero creation, Dot, to fight evil from the inside and finally launch the game.

Pixel Ripped 1978 will launch on 15th June, 2023. The game will be available for PC VR, PSVR 2, and Meta Quest 2.
