After games like tactical shooter X8, and JRPG Soul Covenant, Japanese developer Thirdverse has revealed a rather different VR project. The team are working on bringing the renowned IP Hello Kitty to VR, in a free-to-play social game called Hello Kitty Skyland.

What is Hello Kitty Skyland?
The colourful VR game will allow players to enjoy a variety of activities and interactions, as well as meet all the Sanrio characters. Completely F2P with in-app purchases, the game offers multiplayer experiences that make full use of hand controls. Players will be able to craft items and customise both their personal space and avatar.
“We are thrilled to let Sanrio fans and VR gamers experience the world of Hello Kitty Skyland ahead of release,” said Executive Producer, Masaru Ohnogi, CEO, Thirdverse Inc. in a statement. All feedback will help us craft a world that will be loved by many.”
September Closed Beta Test
Before the launch takes place, Thirdverse is planning on hosting a Closed Beta Test (CBT) in September. A specific date has yet to be announced, with players able to register via the official Discord. The CBT is looking for 500 play-testers for the event, and you’ll need to own either a Meta Quest 2, 3 or 3S to participate.
Regarding the test, Thirdverse notes: “players will have the opportunity to try out the core multiplayer mechanics and game loops in Hello Kitty Skyland ahead of launch. Feedback gathered via surveys and Discord will be used to further refine the UX, controls, and gameplay experience.”
What’s Next?
Currently, Hello Kitty Skyland is slated for a ‘late 2025’ launch for Meta Quest and ‘other major VR platforms’. It will be an Early Access game, so expect development to be ongoing and there to be a few bugs here and there.
