A couple of years ago, Gaijin Entertainment announced plans for a spinoff of its hugely popular multiplayer War Thunder. Called Aces of Thunder, the focus is on aerial combat featuring planes from World War I and World War 2. Now the studio has released a new trailer, suggesting the imminent launch of Aces of Thunder for PSVR 2 and PCVR.

Aces of Thunder PSVR 2

What’s New?

The trailer (seen below) confirms that Aces of Thunder won’t purely be a multiplayer experience. The game will feature a single-player campaign. Gaijin Entertainment notes that the campaign will include: “Escorting bombers, striking an airfield full of fighter jets or leading an assault on the legendary Yamato” and more.

As for those legendary planes you’ll be piloting, over 20 historically accurate war birds will be on hand. From the American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, and the British Spitfire, through to the German Bf 109 and Fw 190 and the Japanese A6M3 Zero.

15 globe-spanning battlefields representing World War II: Western, Eastern and Pacific Fronts, as well as World War I frontlines, will be available. And if you have a HOTAS setup, Aces of Thunder will support those controls too.

That “Imminent” Release Date

Having released that trailer a few days ago, if you watch it all the way to the end, you’ll have noticed it said: “Arrival imminent in 2025”. That’s not much to go on, really, but we’d imagine that to mean weeks and not months. So a September announcement, even a release, is a very good possibility.

Aces of Thunder will support PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets on Steam. It’ll also feature a flatscreen mode for those who don’t want to play in VR.

Have you been looking forward to Aces of Thunder since its announcement? Let us know if this will be a day one purchase in the comments!
