Laser Dance Spins on to Meta Quest 3 This Fall

Laser Dance - Quest 3

Posted on: 21 May 2025

A couple of years ago, indie developer Thomas Van Bouwel unveiled his next project, a mixed reality game called Laser Dance. Having already made a name for himself with puzzle game Cubism, this time around, the puzzles are going to be far more physical. Originally intended for release in 2024, the developer has now confirmed a Fall 2025 release window for Laser Dance on Meta Quest 3 and 3S.

What is Laser Dance?

As the name suggests, the game will have you quite literally dancing around lasers. In scenes more akin to classic spy movies, the aim is to carefully navigate your way through an ever-more complicated array of colourful lasers. The end goal is to hit a button on the far side of your room.

This being a mixed reality game, you’ll be treated to an assortment of laser combinations emanating from your walls and ceilings. Sometimes you might need to be light on foot to tiptoe around the lasers. At other times, you’ll even have to get on your hands and knees or even lie flat on the ground to get through.

As Van Bouwel’s video explains, one of the biggest challenges has been to ensure the game adapts to all environments. Whether you have a large living room to play in or a small bedroom, Laser Dance should equally scale to those environments. And to ensure accessibility, you’ll be able to adjust options like laser height to make the experience more manageable.

Laser Dance Meta Quest Launch

As mentioned, his original intention was to release Laser Dance in 2024. With development taking longer than expected, Van Bouwel has now decided an Early Access launch is needed. This will allow him to continue working on the title whilst giving players access to this hotly anticipated game.

It’s also worth noting that development began on Meta Quest 2. But since the launch of the Quest 3/3S, Van Bouwel has moved the entire project to the current-gen headsets. Thanks to Meta’s MR improvements, Laser Dance benefits from features like dynamic occlusion and inside-out body tracking support. The latter of which means Laser Dance can see when a body part crosses a beam.
