Comedy games are a rare and difficult breed, mainly because comedy is so subjective. GORN 2, for example, offers cartoonish ultra-violence that’s highly amusing. On the other hand, Taskmaster VR, a game based on a British comedy show, failed to muster even a snigger. And now we have Bull Hit by Odders Lab, a social game set entirely on a bull. And why it might sound a bit bizarre, our friends over at 131XR reviewed Bull Hit and found it quite surprising.

What is Bull Hit?
An Early Access game for Meta Quest, Bull Hit sits you permanently atop a bull. Riding around a virtual town, you can engage in various activities like playing rugby or basketball, hunting down secret or even chasing unfortunate inhabitants. Almost as if Gorilla Tag was mixed with Spain’s infamous bull runs.
The game is free to play, offers bull customisation options – quite possibly a first for VR – voice chat and as much multiplayer madness as you want.
Bull Hit Review
Stepping into Bull Hit, 131XR found during its review that at present, the game is fairly empty. Not great for a multiplayer-focused game. Even so, that gave them plenty of time to explore the world, discovering secrets and a number of activities. Locations dotted around the town include a sports field, a giant checkers board, a race track to race your bull and even an obstacle course. Naturally, there a bull ring also featured.
Bull Hit’s comedic stylings stretch beyond the mere idea of this experience. The aesthetic is colourful and vibrant, the control scheme takes a little getting used to, and the characters have that friendly low-poly look about them.
Slightly more critically, 131XR notes that while there are activities to do in Bull Hit. The overall experience is rather shallow, especially if no one is around. You’ll probably enjoy exploring for a bit, but you’ll want to get some friends involved to race those bulls. Thankfully, that shouldn’t be too hard considering it’s free-to-play.
Can Bull Hit Succeed?
The team behind Bull Hit, Odders Lab, certainly isn’t new when it comes to VR. These are the folks behind games like Les Mills Body Combat, OhShape and Chess Club. When looking at these past projects, Bull Hit certainly seems the most experimental to date.
Being an Early Access game, the studio has already confirmed that plenty of updates are on the way. Since launch, new circuit races and mini-games have arrived, alongside quality of life improvements. Which means if you’re looking for a new social game that’s F2P, Bull Hit is worth a look.
