Magitek VR Review – A Well Cast VR Adventure

Posted on: 09 Apr 2025

VR and magic-based games have been a perfect mix from day one. Stepping into a fantasy realm to cast lightning spells or throw fireballs never gets old, and the latest title to cast players in a magical adventure is Magitek VR. From indie team Tek Studios, Magitek VR has been reviewed by 131XR, finding a game that could be well worth your time.

A mixed Magik adventure

The first game from Tek Studios, Magitek VR offers a varied VR experience. For those after a story-driven campaign, the game delivers the world of Embra. Here, players can learn a variety of magical abilities, fight dragons, explore dungeons and uncover a mysterious narrative. Not interested in the story? How about entering the Arena where you can fight waves of enemies? Do well enough, and maybe you’ll top the online leaderboard.

For those who love some multiplayer action, Magitek VR also features six-player competitive arenas. Once players have got a feel for the spell casting and which abilities they prefer, they can go head-to-head in free-for-all battles.

Furthermore, there’s a Sandbox mode supporting both single-player and multiplayer. Wannabe wizards can practice their magical craft and experiment as much as they want. Magitek VR is a spell-casting game based on the elements, after all.

Magitek VR Review

Like many a magic game before it, Magitek VR focuses on Fire, Air, Water and Earth elements for all of its spell abilities. There are thirty to learn across all four elements, hence why features like the Sandbox mode are useful additions to learn each technique. As 131XR finds in its review, this helps Magitek VR offer players a decent amount of choice and strategy when it comes to facing both AI and human opponents.

Magitek VR does have its pitfalls on occasion, though. 131XR points out that aiming – a crucial part in any magic-based game – can be quite difficult. The game does little to aid the player, so learning how to properly aim a fireball becomes a skill in itself.

The Magic of VR

As mentioned, Magitek VR is by no means the first VR title to experiment with spell casting. Plenty of developers over the years have employed different approaches to the genre. Take Waltz of the Wizard, for example. Originally a short interactive experience where you could mix potions and explore your wizard tower, Aldin Dynamics has massively expanded this solo game with a campaign and hand tracking.

Zenith, on the other hand, went down the MMORPG route, creating a huge world for players to explore. Then there’s the likes of Demeo, a fantasy tabletop game akin to D&D, with adventures taking place in miniature environments. Then there’s War of Wizards, a VR MOBA game where you draw symbols to unleash magic attacks.
