2021’s cooperative dungeon crawler Demeo was an undeniable success. As such, it was perhaps inevitable that Resolution Games would follow up with a sequel. Today, the studio has released Demeo Battles, playable on traditional flatscreen or in VR. The game will also come to PlayStation 5 and PSVR 2 in 2024, and to Pico headsets soon.
Demeo Battles turns Demeo’s turn-based formula on its head. No longer a cooperative experience, the game drops heroes into the arena to compete head-to-head for the first time. Players will see their tactical prowess put to the test in matches that determine whose strategies are sharpest in their quest to dominate the battlefield.
“When we first envisioned Demeo, it felt as if we’d opened a box filled with possibilities. With today’s launch, we’re beginning to explore those possibilities well beyond the confines of the first game,” said Tommy Palm, founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “While Demeo fans will find plenty of new strategies to discover as they try different mixes of maps, minions, and champions, Demeo Battles has been designed to welcome a much wider range of players into the franchise. With its combination of quick-matches and considered strategy, Demeo Battles is prepared to deliver the thrill of victory (and the agony of defeat) to any fans of turn-based strategy who are looking to test their mettle against the competition.”
How to Play Demeo Battles
Players in Demeo Battles assemble a team of two heroes to take into battle. They then choose from a selection of action cards and minions to join them in the arena. Heroes remain under direct control of the player, while minions automatically seek out opposing heroes and monsters to deal damage. All the while, The Burn – a deadly flood of lava – creeps in from all sides. Wait too long and you’ll find your champions and minions alike taking damage.
Following today’s launch, Resolution Games has assured fans that the coming weeks will see further game-balancing based on player feedback. Following this initial period, Resolution Games will then begin working on DLC Demeo Battles. This will include a ranked mode and additional single-player challenges, expected to be made available in the coming months.
Demeo Battles is now available for purchase for PCVR and Meta Quest for $19.99 USD. The game is also coming soon to Pico and will arrive on PlayStation 5 and PSVR 2 next year.
