Breachers On PSVR 2 to Receive Official bHaptics Support

Breachers hits Quest 2

Posted on: 11 Jan 2024

It’s CES week in Las Vegas (as if you didn’t know) and the hardware announcements have been coming thick and fast. While the likes of Apple and Sony have been grabbing the headlines, one of the announcements you may have missed comes from bHaptics. The company behind the TactSuit haptic vest, bHaptics has revealed official support for Breachers on PSVR 2.

Currently, the TactSuit – and several other accessories – natively support Breachers on Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets. In May 2024, the team-based tactical shooter will be the first PSVR 2 game to integrate bHaptics into its gameplay. Quite a feat considering Breachers only arrived on the headset in December.

Breachers on PSVR 2 already enjoy the headset’s advanced haptic feedback but with a TactSuit on that should be even better. The software will be more finely tuned to each bullet impact and explosive force. For example, you’ll know if you get shot from behind, thus giving you a small chance to retaliate. All the benefits Meta Quest and SteamVR users currently enjoy.

Now, you may say that bHaptics already supports consoles like PS5 and thus PSVR 2. However, this system is via the company’s ‘wired audio-based haptics’. What that means is stereo haptic feedback using the game’s audio, rather than the gameplay. As bHaptics notes, this is: “Real-time sound-based stereo haptic feedback will tell you the direction of gun fires, explosions and everything else happening in the game.” Players can then configure the frequencies and activation area how they like. With native support, you get the realism and accuracy right out of the box.

Breachers is a 5v5 multiplayer shooter where one team start as defenders (Revolters) trying to protect a bomb site. The other team are the attackers (Enforcers), who want to disarm the bomb. It’s the perfect type of game to utilise haptic technology of this sort.
