Learning a new language is never easy. But there are VR apps like Noun Town and Mondly, that aim to make the process entertaining. But you wouldn’t consider any of the language apps to be games. That’s where 30 Parallel Games’ upcoming fantasy role-playing game (RPG) Terra Alia comes in. The game is due for release on Meta Quest at the end of November.
Originally a flatscreen game which arrived on Nintendo Switch in October, Terra Alia is a world where sorcery and technology go hand-in-hand. The multilingual adventure can teach you English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Brazilian Portuguese.
Terra Alia story
In the world of Terra Alia, you find yourself at a prestigious magical academy to study under Professor Esperanto. However: “she mysteriously vanishes, all that remains is her trusty battle-programmed robot falcon Falco and a piece of an enchanted stone with an encoded message. Embark on an adventure to retrieve the five remaining pieces of the stone to rescue the Professor.”
Featuring interactive combat where you unleash spells against enemies by speaking in your chosen native tongue. And when you’re not fighting there are secrets to discover and puzzles to solve, all based around language learning. The single-player campaign will take you through a single language, then you can replay it to add another language to your repertoir.
Terra Alia arrives for Meta Quest headsets on 30th November 2023. It’ll be priced at $20 USD/£14.99 GBP but there is a pre-order discount available until launch day.
It has got some stiff competition for players this month. Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR has launched, and Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior is on the way. Plus the likes of Asgard’s Wrath 2 isn’t far away.
