Resolutions Games are experts in VR multiplayer, thanks to games like Blaston, Ultimechs, Acron: Attack of the Squirrel and Demeo. The latter title has become quite the hit since its launch in 2021, serving up turned-based, tabletop strategy. Now its spinoff, Demeo Battles is almost ready for launch, set to arrive this November for Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets.
Rather than a cooperative multiplayer, Demeo Battles is competitive. Announced in 2022, it still features turn-based gameplay in the fantasy settings fans know and love. But this time, 1-4 players are going head-to-head in either 1v1 or 2v2 battles. Whilst some similarities remain, such as the cast of critters that inhabit the dungeons and the cast of heroes, there are plenty of new additions too.
Demeo Battles Commence
Firstly, there are ten new maps for players to fight in, tailored to the PvP combat. Matches will also be shorter, ensuring a tense combat experience. Plays will also be able to select minions to fight for them, with a roster of 37 creatures to pick from. Furthermore, in the 1v1 matches, players will be able to choose two heroes – hunter, sorcerer, assassin, guardian, bard, warlock or barbarian – to take into battle. 2v2 will see teams of two work together.
Battles will take place just like in Demeo with players taking turns to move their heroes and attack. Any minions selected will then automatically attack the opposing team. Players will also be able to select ability cards – 89 in total – to augment their base attacks or unleash special moves.
Players won’t have time to linger either. Resolution Games has introduced ‘The Burn’, to force everyone into the centre of the map. It is “An ever-encroaching flood of lava that works its way towards the centre of the board and causes immense damage to any player or monster caught in its path,” the studio notes.
Demeo Battles launches for Quest and PCVR headsets on 9th November 2023. It is already available to pre-order on the Quest Store with a 10% discount, or you can wishlist the game on Steam.
