Summer tends to be a quieter season for videogames. Most major releases tend to be saved for Autumn, building up to the holiday season. The same is true for VR, with PSVR 2 only seeing a small selection over the past couple of months. August is definitely changing that up, with several big launches on the way. Here are the hot new PSVR 2 games on the horizon.
Firewall Ultra
Quite possibly the biggest game to arrive this month is First Contact Entertainment’s Firewall Ultra. A follow-up from the hugely popular Firewall Zero Hour, like its predecessor this is a PlayStation exclusive.
A team-based military shooter, the gameplay revolves around defending or trying to hack a laptop across various maps. Attackers and defenders have their own unique tools to aid in this process, in addition to the various contractors and load-outs each player can specialise in.
Firewall Ultra is due for release on 24th August.
Crossfire: Sierra Squad
Another exciting tactical FPS coming to PSVR 2 in August is Crossfire: Sierra Squad. Coming from a franchise that has existed for several years now, Crossfire: Sierra Squad features a medley of gameplay options. There are 13 main single-player campaign missions as well as 50 squad campaign missions (single-player or 2-player co-op). Additionally, a Horde Mode with endless wave encounters supports up to 4-players.
Realism is a big part of the experience, with 39 types of weapons including pistols, rifles, sniper rifles and throwable—and throwback-able—grenades.
Crossfire: Sierra Squad will see a simultaneous PSVR 2 and Steam launch on 29th August 2023.
Green Hell VR
If you love that sense of realism in VR tinged with survival adventure, then keep an eye out for Green Hell VR. Set in the Amazon, you have to use the inhospitable and impenetrable jungle to your advantage. Scavenge for resources with which to feed yourself, protect yourself and ensure to live through the night. Everything in the jungle wants to kill you, so make sure you craft the right tools and weapons, build a fire to keep you warm and build a shelter to protect you from the elements.
Developer Incuvo has said the PSVR 2 edition will be based on the Quest version, albeit with PSVR 2-specific features and graphics.
Green Hell VR is scheduled to arrive on 15th August 2023.
House Flipper VR
Not interested in all that action and fancy a more homely game? Then House Flipper VR it is. Based on the original flatscreen version, House Flipper VR has been brought to most VR headsets and soon it’ll be PSVR 2’s turn.
The premise is simple, clean up and redecorate homes for a profit. They’re all in various states of disrepair, so you’ll have to first make sure everything is clean and tidy. You can then start on the redecoration, going as drastic as you like to sell the perfect home.
House Flipper VR is scheduled to arrive on 11th August 2023.
Additional mentions
VR Skater has already launched for PSVR 2. A skateboarding sim, the game has been available via Steam Early Access since 2021. Like most VR headsets, PSVR 2 doesn’t track legs, so all the moves are performed via controller input. Even so, the adaptive triggers are used to simulate resistance and once you’re proficient you’ll unlock some nice customisation options.
Phasmophobia is the final title PSVR 2 fans are eager to see arrive. It has been given an August launch window but as yet no specific date. Another title from Steam Early Access, Phasmophobia is all about ghosthunting with mates, so it is scary.
And that’s your lot for the new PSVR 2 games in August. Which will you be buying?
