Titles like Contractors Showdown: ExfilZone and Ghosts of Tabor offer some of the best extraction shooter gameplay in VR. On the other hand, if you’d like less realism and more sci-fi action, Salmi Games has the answer. It’s upcoming PvE co-op shooter DRIFTERS: Blackout Crew for Meta Quest and SteamVR.

What is Drifters?
DRIFTERS: Blackout Crew is described as a PvE co-op VR extraction shooter set in space. In a team of four, you and your friends are tasked with raiding ancient alien temples for valuable resources, all to keep your ship alive. This is no easy mission as rare loot is hidden deep within these vast complexes, which also contain a myriad of robotic defenders. You and your team then have to decide whether to push on further or extract with what you’ve already collected.
“DRIFTERS is our next step as a VR studio,” said Yacine Salmi, founder of Salmi Games. “With Sweet Surrender, we spent years refining responsive VR combat alongside our community. With DRIFTERS, we are taking that experience into a bigger co-op game built around teamwork, physical VR gunplay, and extraction decisions players have to make together under pressure.”
Key Features
DRIFTERS: Blackout Crew is a shooter built around teamwork. Evoking a visual style akin to Sweet Surrender, players will have an arsenal of weapons to choose from, all of which can be modded to suit each play style. There will also be various tools to aid each extraction, from wrist-mounted gadgets to jetpacks.
There’s plenty of customisation beyond the guns, turning those valuable resources into upgrades, gear, cosmetics, and base improvements.
When and Where?
You can now wishlist DRIFTERS: Blackout Crew for Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets. Salmi Games has yet to confirm a release date. There’s also no word on a PSVR 2 edition. Considering Sweet Surrender didn’t sell well on the headset, that might affect Drifter’s chances of a port.
