It’s been three years since Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 graced PSVR 2 with its mini-game scares. And just like those jump scares the franchise is known for, Steel Wool Studios has made a surprise announcement. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic VR is set to hit PSVR 2 next week!

A Five Nights Surprise!
The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has always been popular with gamers and has especially gone down well with VR fans. Normally, we’d expect to see a big buildup from Steel Wool, but Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic VR has seemingly come out of nowhere.
The studio has only released a short teaser trailer alongside the launch date and platform, keeping things rather mysterious.
What to Expect
In all honesty, XRSource isn’t too sure what to expect apart from a lot of jump scares! Well, that’s not entirely true. While Steel Wool Studio’s announcement is rather devoid of specifics, this is a VR port after all.
The original Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic launched on PS5 in 2025 and was generally well-received by fans and critics alike. In this entry, you enter the abandoned workshop of Murray’s Costume Manor and unravel the mystery left behind by the reclusive inventor, Edwin Murray. You’ll encounter “The Mimic, a prototype endoskeleton, can adapt to any costume and become any character, including what you fear most,” the synopsis explains.
And, of course, plenty of puzzles to solve and things jumping out of the darkness at you. But as for the VR edition, the trailer highlights the sort of motion controls and interactivity that we’d expect of a modern VR title. What’s unclear is whether this is a standalone title or a ‘VR DLC/Update’ for the flatscreen version.
