It seems as though Resolution Games is on a nostalgic trip at the moment. The veteran VR studio recently announced an anniversary update for Bait! and now asymmetric party game Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! is getting the update treatment.
Cherry Glade Update
It’s quite surprising that the game has received an update, because the last one was five years ago. The biggest part of the update is a brand new level, called Cherry Glade. While the gameplay remains the same, the level offers player a new challenge, dodging and zig-zagging their way to victory from multiple angles thanks to a new “sideways arc” movement mechanic.
“Acron has always held a special place for us — it’s one of those games people immediately think of when they talk about fun asymmetric couch party chaos,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games. “Seeing it get a refresh with its first major update in five years is incredibly exciting. Cherry Glade brings a fresh twist to the gameplay, and with all the improvements under the hood, it’s the perfect time for both longtime fans and new players to jump back in and go a little nuts together.”
Furthermore, the update adds major network stability improvements alongside a variety of smaller bug fixes and UI enhancements.
The update is freely available now for Meta Quest, SteamVR and Pico owners.
What is Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!
Released way back in 2019 for VR headsets, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! asymmetric gameplay sees the VR player take the role of a tree protecting golden acorns. All the other players (up to eight in total) join via mobile, taking the role of squirrels looking to steal those acorns.
A purely cross-platform, multiplayer game, the mobile players can choose from a selection of squirrels, each with their own special ability. Players can then either choose to work together or lone wolf it to the acorns. Once you get within grabbing distance of the tree, be careful, as the VR player can easily throw a squirrel off the map.
More to Come?
Resolution Games might be better known for its most recent titles like Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, but the studio does have a huge back catalogue of games. So it’s not too wild to consider that it may be going through a phase of updating several of its older games. Not only for long-term fans still playing, but also to encourage new players who likely didn’t have a headset at the time of their original launch.
