Who doesn’t love a surprise or two, with this past week delivering some exciting announcements? While we’ve enjoyed new reveals such as PAYDAY: Aces High, Resolution Games gave us a surprising bit of nostalgia. The studio released a special anniversary update to celebrate 10 years of Bait!

10th Anniversary Update
To see a new update for a ten-year-old game is surprising itself, let alone for one of the first VR titles Resolution Games ever released!
To celebrate this momentous event, the studios’ anniversary update is packed with free gear and stylish new items, all for free. What’s more, it contains a sneak peek at what’s next for Bait! To start with, players can claim a “10 Year Anniversary” fishing set featuring a special rod, reel, and bobber, found in the “Vend-o-Matic”. For the pro anglers, Jim Bob’s Shop now stock the flashy ‘Synthwave’ fishing set, vibrant retro colours, and neon glow of the Synthwave rod, reel, and bobber, available as an in-app purchase.
“Bait! was one of our very first titles here at Resolution Games, and it’s wild to look back at what we built in those early days of VR and see how far both the game and the technology have come,” said Gustav Stenmark, game director at Resolution Games and the original producer for Bait!. “The fact that players are still casting their lines in Bait! ten years later is really a testament to the staying power of VR. And we’re not done yet! Later this year, we’re taking VR elements to the ‘reel’ world with Bait! in mixed reality.”
That’s correct, the next big instalment for Bait! is the addition of mixed reality support and hand tracking. Enabling anglers to fish in comfort in their living room.
The OG Fishing Game
In the early years of VR’s gaming resurgence, Bait! (much like Job Simulator) became one of those titles you had to play and did play. It was available for every VR device under the sun, easy to pick up and play with colourful graphics and engaging gameplay.
While it might be considered a bit more basic in comparison to more modern fishing titles, it’s still the OG. It’s almost a testament to Resolution Games’ original design that folks still play Bait! to this day. Helped by the fact that it’s free-to-play.
Competitive Fishing Rivals
If you are a fishing aficionado who loves Bait!, what other similar titles are out there? When it comes to the ultimate in VR fishing simulators, you can’t go too far wrong with Real VR Fishing. A couple of years behind Bait!, Real VR Fishing takes you to real-world locations to catch some of the most prized aquatic life. You can even store our favourites in your own aquarium.
On the other hand, if you’d prefer to take a more cosmic fishing trip, there’s always Galactic Catch. From Baobab Studios (Invasion!, Baba Yaga) comes a title where you can catch some very weird and wonderful fish.
Are you a fan of Bait!? Are you still playing, or did another fishing game catch your eye? Let us know in the comments.
