Whether it’s driving a car, flying a plane or strapping on a board and hurtling down a snowy mountain, VR puts you right in the middle of any adrenaline enducing activity. Soon, we’ll have another to enjoy, with indie team Break Free Interactive announcing the upcoming launch of VMX for SteamVR headets.

What is VMX?
VMX is a racing simulator focused on riding BMX, MTB (Mountain Bikes) and Scooters. You’ll be able to pick your choice of ride and then head to a skatepark to show off your skills using a gesture-based skill system. Aiming for high accuracy, the studio says the game employs “advanced VR controls and a custom physics system to deliver precise, true-to-life bike handling.”
Like other trick-based sports titles, in VMX you perform gestures to execute each trick. So you not only have to navigate skateparks and dirt tracks at speed, you also have to learn the correct gestures and land them to max those points out.
Launching into Early Access, VMX will intially feature all three vehicles, five tracks and three game modes: TIme Attack, Simon Says, and Sandbox. All of which can be enjoyed either solo or in online multiplayer.
Furthermore, there will be loads of customisation options for both character and vehicle. The vehicle customisation looks particularly unqiue, allowing players to pick up spray cans to pimp their ride. The system enables smooth gradients, color blending, and custom pattern creation for the ultimate one-off look.
Launch Details
Break Free Interactive has confirmed that VMX will land on SteamVR for PCVR headsets on 26th March 2026. As this will be an Early Access title, the two-person dev team will be continually updating the title. Current expectations are that VMX will remain in Early Access for at least a year, maybe two. Some games like Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades have reamined in EA for 10 years, whilst others such as Of Lies and Rain spent only two months in EA.
As for other platforms, VMX will be coming to Meta Quest at a later date. Whether that will be Break Free Interactive’s next major milestone post-SteamVR launch remains unclear.
xtreme Sports in VR
VMX will be joining a growing lineup of extreme sports titles in VR. Games like RUSH and were early pioneers, with the former reemerging on PSVR 2 as RUSH: Apex Edition Remastered last year. In a similar vein to VMX you also have th elikes of SkateVR, Virtual Skate and Slowp to name a few. On the other end of the scale you have the parkour inspired Stride, or skydiving multiplayer Project Freefall for those adrenaline kicks.
What do you reckon to VMX? Will you be picking up the game this March? Let us know in the comments.
