Schell Games has a long, illustrious history in VR. From escape room-style titles like I Expect You To Die to educational games such as HoloLAB Champions, the studio has done it all. Now the team has revealed their latest project, an action-packed skydiving game called Project Freefall.

What is Project Freefall?
Project Freefall is going to be a social party game designed for up to eight players. The idea is simple: there are eight skydivers, but only one parachute. And so players have to quickly acquire and hold onto the parachute so they can safely make it to the ground.
However, all the other players can access a range of items like grenades and fire extinguishers to gain the parachute for themselves. Players with the parachute can make themselves less of an easy target by using falling structures to hide inside (all still whilst plummeting to the ground). Players also have to be aware of plenty of debris, falling sharks included.
Furthermore, this isn’t purely designed for VR either. Schell Games will have a flatscreen VR edition that’ll support cross-play, making sure lobbies are easier to fill.
Launch Details
Currently, Project Freefall does not have a specific launch date on Meta Quest or Steam, just that it is heading into “earliest access” soon. The flatscreen edition will be available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
And best of all, Project Freefall will be a free-to-play (F2P) game.
Schell Games Goes F2P
Most of Schell Games’ VR titles – like the recently released Silent Slayer: Vault of the Vampire – have been premium, paid games. But the trend on the Horizon Store – led by games such as Gorilla Tag and Animal Company – has been towards more mobile, F2P titles that have in-app purchases.
This trend has likely led the studio down this new path, as it’s far easier to fill a multiplayer game if it’s free. Project Freefall will also feature its own in-game shop, where players will be able to buy unique characters and diver suits to customise their character.
