The PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR2) has become a major contender in console-based VR, thanks not only to Sony’s hardware but also to a library of standout games. If you’re using the PSVR2 on your PlayStation 5, here are eight must-play titles currently available — and many are exclusives or at least best-experienced on the PSVR2.
PSVR2 Exclusive Games
If you own a PSVR2 and a PS5, the below list offers eight titles that showcase the headset at its best. From adrenaline-fuelled shooters to serene paddle sessions, there’s something for every VR taste. What’s more, many of these games are exclusive to the PSVR2, or simply not the same on any other device.
We’ve broken down the list into two sections. Games that are exclusive to the PSVR2, and those which are available on other formats but play better on Sony’s VR headset. So let’s dive right in with the exclusive titles first!

Horizon: Call of the Mountain
Perhaps the most obvious selection, Horizon: Call of the Mountain was a launch title for the PSVR2. Widely recognised as the flagship PSVR2 game, this action-adventure title from Guerrilla Games and Firesprite brings the Horizon universe into full VR.
The game is a showcase piece for the PSVR2 headset. It steps aside from the Horizon formula to present an experience more suited to VR whilst staying thematic to the series. Activities such as climbing and archery feel incredible using the PSVR2 Sense controllers.

Resident Evil Village (VR mode)
Bringing horror to VR, Resident Evil Village uses PSVR2’s high resolution and immersive Sense controller interactions to great effect. The game stands out as a premier horror experience on PSVR2.
Following the success of Resident Evil 7: biohazard on the original PlayStation VR, Resident Evil Village‘s VR Mode allows you to play the entire game in VR. And through it delivers an incomparable survival horror experience in the immersive medium. As Resident Evil Village‘s VR Mode is exclusive to PSVR2, fans of the genre will have no choice but to jump onboard with Sony’s premier headset.

Gran Turismo 7 (VR Mode)
Racing simulation fans rejoice: Gran Turismo 7 supports PSVR2. The game offers one of the richest console-VR racing experiences, and is considered a “must-own” game for the platform by many.
While the original PlayStation VR benefitted from many first-party racing games, PSVR2 hasn’t been quite so lucky. Gran Turismo 7 is the sole PSVR2 racing game published by Sony. And while there are many great third-party efforts, Gran Turismo 7 stands alone as the racing simulation that truly pushes the hardware.

Synapse
Speaking of third-party games, we come to nDreams’ critically acclaimed Synapse. A PSVR2 exclusive, Synapse combines telekinetic powers, shooting and roguelite structure in a surreal setting.
nDreams call Synapse a “next-generation action shooter”, with gameplay that combines brutal firepower with surging telekinetic abilities. The game is set in an abstract world that’s mostly black and white, but with occasional flourishes of colour. It plays fast and fluid, with you as the player able to dual-wield a variety of guns in combination with your telekinesis. The ability to pick up and fling enemies around is further enhanced by PSVR2’s eye-tracking.

Switchback VR
A spin-off from the Dark Pictures series, Switchback VR is a horror-themed VR roller-coaster from Supermassive Games, made specifically for PSVR2. Long time fans of Sony’s VR efforts may well remember Until Dawn: Rush of Blood; a similar experience also spun-out of another Supermassive Games series for the original PlayStation VR. This time however, the studio has added in far more interactivity for the player, as well as various special items that can help with puzzle solving, providing additional replayability.
Games that are Better on PSVR2
Moving on from exclusive games, there’s also a tonne of exciting PSVR2 titles that are available on other formats yet perform better on console. Below is a small selection of some of the best. If you’re looking for a new experience specifically on your PSVR2, don’t overlook any of these games!

No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky is an infamous title in the games industry. A lot was promised at launch, and very little of it delivered upon. However, the team at Hello Games worked tirelessly to deliver on those promises, and some years later the game is considered a fantastically enjoyable experience. It’s arguably the most famous redemption arc in gaming.
For the VR edition of the game, we received more than just a port. The PSVR2 version lets you explore a full open universe in VR, which many consider an unforgettable experience for exploration-loving players.

Kayak VR: Mirage
A refreshingly calm and physical experience, Kayak VR: Mirage is widely considered a ‘must have’ game for PSVR2. You’ll be paddling through beautiful VR landscapes makes excellent use of PSVR2 Sense controllers and tracking.
Despite what could be considered a niche subject matter, Kayak VR: Mirage has frequently topped the PSVR2 sales charts. If you haven’t dived in already, perhaps now is the time?

Moss: Book II
A charming and accessible action-adventure that caters to both VR enthusiasts and newcomers alike, Moss: Book II is one of the highest rated games for PSVR2. Polyarc’s Moss series has been so well received, that we will soon be receiving a spin-off: Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss. Oddly though, that spin-off doesn’t yet seem to be confirmed for a PSVR2 release.
But what we do have in Moss: Book II is one of the best platform games available in VR to date. Even if the cutesy visuals aren’t for you, don’t sleep on this series. Jump in today; you won’t regret it!
