October tends to be a very traditional time of year for horror games. This month we’ve already been graced by BlackGate and Memoreum with more on their way. Bolstering the sci-fi horror genre even further, Star Trek: Infection now has a December release date.

Star Trek: Infection Launch

The work of Played With Fire (Mixture) and Broken Mirror Games, Star Trek: Infection will be coming to Meta Quest 3/3S and PC VR headsets via Steam on 11th December 2025. The initial summer announcement did state that the launch would be staggered, with the Quest edition arriving first. This week’s announcement hasn’t made that distinction, so a simultaneous launch might be on the cards.

A Deadly Infection

Star Trek: Infection is being billed as a survival adventure, whilst being a “psychological and physical nightmare”. Taking on the role of a Vulcan Starfleet officer, you’re sent on a special mission aboard the U.S.S. Lumen, however, not all is as it seems. Boarding the vessel, you discover a complete absence of crew. Instead, an unknown entity has infect the ship. Now that you’re onboard, it’s infested your body, mutating you for better and worse. You’ve now got dangerous new abilities at your disposal, but they’ll cost you your sanity.

This being a Star Trek game you’ll also have lots of gadgets including a Phaser and a Tricorder to scan for dangers and track your condition. As a Vulcan you can also deploy the Vulcan nerve pinch to deal with threats.

Star Trek Returns to VR

Star Trek: Infection isn’t the first time the franchise has graced VR. While the VR industry in general has taken great inspiration from Star Trek’s ‘HoloDeck’, Ubisoft was the first studio to bring the IP to VR in the form of Star Trek: Bridge Crew in 2017. This was a very different beast, offering a multiplayer experience where four players could serve in the roles of Captain, Helm, Tactical or Engineer.
