After a successful Early Access period, Surviving Mars: Pioneer officially reaches version 1.0 today. The full launch of the game will debut on Steam VR and Meta Quest, now including Meta Quest 2 support. Developed by Bolverk Games in collaboration with Paradox Interactive, the game will also launch on PSVR 2 later this month.

About Surviving Mars: Pioneer
Set in the unforgiving Martian frontier, Surviving Mars: Pioneer places players directly in the boots of a lone explorer. You’ll weld life-saving structures together, navigate treacherous canyons with power lines, and breathe in the quiet beauty of starlit Martian nights. But only if your oxygen holds out.
Every decision matters, and mistakes are truly final. This is not a reimagining of the original Surviving Mars, but a built-from-scratch survival sim tailored exclusively for VR. Every mechanic, from resource gathering to structure placement, was designed to feel intuitive in VR.
Surviving Mars: Pioneer 1.0 Launch
While developer Bolverk Games has supported the game with continuous updates throughout its Early Access period, version 1.0 marks Surviving Mars: Pioneer biggest overhaul yet. This edition delivers a host of new features, content, and technical improvements:

- Fully overhauled building system: Seamless snapping, new connectors, and expanded design flexibility
- New structures: Viewpod, Roof Platforms, Stairs, Railings, and Vertical Airlock
- Interior color customisation
- Narrative ending for players who complete the survival journey
World & Exploration
- Underground caves with hidden resources – and hidden threats
- Achievements now live across all supported platforms
Technical Enhancements
- Improved visuals on SteamVR and PS VR2
- Extensive bug fixes and optimisation
- Support for Meta Quest 2

PSVR 2 Edition Incoming
On PSVR 2, Surviving Mars: Pioneer reaches its ‘most fully realized form’, according to Bolverk Games. The subtle headset rumble conveys the tremors of a collapsing tunnel. Controller haptics deliver the crunch of laying down power cables or the crack of a Martian landslide. Eye tracking with foveated rendering keeps every detail sharp and responsive, while native 90Hz performance ensures movement across the Martian surface feels fluid and lifelike.
The PSVR 2 version will arrive on 12th September, 2025. If you’re looking forward to playing on Meta Quest or PC VR however, you’ll be able to jump in today for $24.99 USD.
