Bolverk Games, the studio behind VR games including Glyph, Kittypocalypse, Genotype and Dick Wilde is preparing to launch its next title. Called Surviving Mars: Pioneer, the game moves away from the studio’s more light-hearted projects and drops players on the desolate Red Planet next week.
What is Surviving Mars: Pioneer?
As you might expect, the game is all about surviving Mars’ harsh climate and building your very own Martian outpost. Based on Paradox Interactive’s Surviving Mars franchise, Pioneer is the first made-for-VR entry in the series.
Martian colonisation is no simple task, with players having to mine resources, refine materials, and manage their operations strategically in order to expand their base and explore the planet further. And that’s just the start of it. Furthermore, core survival stats like oxygen, nutrition, health, and power all have to be accounted for as you accept new mining and export contracts.
It’s not all work, though. Explore the expansive landscape with jetpacks, hover bikes, and rovers. Players will be able to seek out anomalies, uncovering a story that’ll grow during Early Access.
What’s happening in Early Access?
After the launch next week, Bolverk Games will continue to update and improve the game, adding new features along the way. As mentioned, this will include an exciting narrative, but it’ll also see improved visuals and atmosphere. Refining the building and resource management, incorporating new survival strategies, equipment upgrades, and potential threats.
All driven by community feedback. The eventual plan is to officially launch the game in late 2025.
Launch Details
Surviving Mars: Pioneer will be available from 8th May for Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets. Quest pre-orders are now live for the Early Access title, offering a 10% pre-launch discount and an exclusive in-game poster.
As detailed in XRSource’s New VR Games Launching in May, next Thursday is packed full of games vying for players’ attention. On Meta Quest, for example, you have Requisition VR, Final Fury, Legends BMX, and Surviving Mars: Pioneer. PSVR 2 owners can look forward to the highly anticipated The Midnight Walk. Whilst PCVR users have their pick of some of these titles, alongside Vendetta Forever.
