Rebellion’s Zombie Army VR has been available for a couple of months now, receiving fairly good reviews. After a selection of smaller patches, the studio has released its first major update to the game, adding a Horde Mode to Zombie Army VR.

The Horde Mode Update

Horde Modes have become a popular addition to any zombie game, dispensing with the more methodical campaign layout for all-out action. And the Zombie Army VR Horde Mode is no different. Players will have four brand new maps to explore and face down wave after wave of undead attacks. And just like the main game, they’ll be able to go it alone or face the hordes with a friend thanks to the addition of co-op functionality.

Furthermore, the free update also adds the new Black Ice and Toxic Hazard weapon skins to the game, along with legendary Deadhunters Marie and Boris.

What is Zombie Army VR?

Zombie Army VR launched for Meta Quest, PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets on Steam on 12th June 2025. Originally a spin-off of Sniper Elite, the zombie franchise has become unique in its own right, becoming popular enough that this VR port was created.

The game is set before the events of Zombie Army 4, with you returning to the field as one of the Deadhunters, an elite squad that is hunting down zombie war criminals. You will fight your way through undead hordes near the bombed-out city of Nuremberg and help Hermann Wolff, the Deadhunter’s legendary leader, find his scattered family and fight to free Europe from the zombie apocalypse.

Built specifically for VR, Zombie Army VR includes the kind of features you’d expect, such as realistic weapon handling and reloading. The game also features additional support for accessories like bHaptics vests and ProTubeVR gun controller stocks.
