It was only last week that XRSource reported on Gaijin Entertainment teasing the ‘imminent’ launch date for Aces of Thunder. Well, it seems that the studio wasn’t bluffing. Aces of Thunder will be available next week for PSVR 2 and SteamVR.

Aces of Thunder Launch
Aces of Thunder is now locked in for its VR launch next Tuesday, 2nd September 2025. It’ll support both PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets on Steam, with plans to release a flatscreen coming shortly after. The game will retail for $29.99 USD/ £24.99 GBP/ €29.99 EUR, with pre-orders now available on the PlayStation Store.
What to expect?
Aces of Thunder is an aerial spin-off of Gaijin Entertainment’s hugely popular War Thunder. Like its older sibling, Aces of Thunder mixes both simulation and arcade gameplay. So you get realistic vehicles, weapons and environments, with the controls able to be tailored to your desired parameters. Go full simulation with a HOTAS setup or strip it back and go for that instant arcade feel.
The aerial combat is set during those volatile years of the early 20th Century, where WW1 and WW2 birthed fighter planes like the British Spitfire and the American P-51 Mustang. A few special, rare planes have been thrown in the mix, too, aircraft like the Fokker Dr.I, famously flown by the Red Baron.
And to put them in their natural habitat, 15 key theatres of war have been faithfully recreated. From the frontlines of World War 1 through to the Western, Eastern and Pacific Fronts of WW2.
All of this will make for some epic, multiplayer aerial battles when the game lands next week. And as previously reported, the studio will include a single-player campaign, carrying out assault missions and defensive escorts.
Who are Gaijin Entertainment?
While Gaijin Entertainment has released a number of other titles, the studio is most famous for its military MMO, War Thunder. Originally released over ten years ago in 2013, War Thunder has grown into one of the most comprehensive and well-loved games of its type. Completely free-to-play, War Thunder allows players to step into almost any military vehicle, waging war on land, sea and air. Over 2,500 vehicles are available (some free, some paid DLC) with over 100 maps to unleash them on.
Plus, the game is cross-platform. It doesn’t matter if you’re on PC, PlayStation or Xbox; you and your mates can team up.
Hopefully, Aces of Thunder will also enjoy this level of support and longevity. Will you be buying it on day one? Let us know in the comments!
