Netflix and location-based entertainment (LBE) destination Sandbox VR have announced their latest collaboration. Having previously partnered on Squid Game VR and Rebel Moon: The Descent, the companies have unveiled Stranger Things: Catalyst for 2025.

Stranger Things: Catalyst
A multiplayer experience like all of Sandbox VR’s titles, Stranger Things: Catalyst has been created in-house. No gameplay has been showcased so far, but what we do know is that players will have to team up and face supernatural horrors from the Upside Down. Players will have unique abilities to utilise as they explore iconic locations from the series.
“The success of our previous Netflix collaborations has shown us the incredible potential of bringing beloved content into virtual reality,” said Sandbox VR founder and CEO, Steve Zhao, in a prepared statement. “Our technology will allow fans to physically step into the story they’ve watched unfold over the past seasons, creating thrilling memories with friends as they face the horrors of the Upside Down together.”
Stranger Things: Catalyst will be coming to Sandbox VR locations worldwide later this year.
Sandbox VR in Brief
The LBE company has been going from strength to strength over the last couple of years, after the pandemic almost saw its closure. Currently operating 55 locations worldwide with more to follow, Sandbox VR says it manages to attract over 117k people each month.
Stranger Things Tries VR Again
This isn’t the first time that Netflix’s hit TV show Stranger Things has had a stab at VR. Teaming up with Tender Claws (Virtual Virtual Reality), the studio released Stranger Things VR in early 2024. Rather than stepping into the shoes of one of the main characters like Eleven, players instead found themselves embodying Vecna, the main villain.
Exploring some interesting ideas and gameplay, XRSource ultimately found the game comprised of “repetitive combat, surreal walking simulator and story filler.” It was tailored to show fans rather than VR fans in general.
