Resolution Games have revealed many new details from their forthcoming Demeo follow-up, Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked. Chief among them being exactly how Demeo benefits from the use of the Dungeons & Dragons license, and which platforms the game will grace at launch.
What is Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked?
For the uninitiated, Demeo is a hugely popular VR board game inspired title. A co-operative experience, players would work together in turn-based battles to take down enemy forces. After several years of release, we have seen non-VR editions of the game and also the competitive spin-off, Demeo Battles.
Dungeons & Dragons surely needs little introduction. First published in 1974, it’s an iconic RPG that has grown into an overwhelming popular franchise, spawning TV shows, movies and, of course, videogames.
So, where do the two meet? According to Resolution Games, it’s about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to the familiar gameplay of Demeo.
“While the world of Demeo is rich with lore, our previous titles focus primarily on tactical action over motivation and narrative,” said Tommy Palm, founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “With Dungeons & Dragons, story is just as important as combat, so we’ve rebalanced our approach to make sure we can deliver more of it. With the addition of dramatic cut scenes, richer dialogue, and deeper player choices, Battlemarked truly marks the start of the next iteration of the Demeo Action Roleplaying System.”
Bringing Dungeons & Dragons to Demeo
To ensure the tone of the Dungeons & Dragons universe is accurate, Matt Sernett has been appointed as narrative lead. Sernett previously worked as a designer of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop game. He also contributed to Dungeons & Dragons video games including Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate II, and Icewind Dale. He has also provided narrative contributions to Destiny 2.
“When Dungeons & Dragons launched fifth edition back in 2014, the first adventure that many players went on ventured into Neverwinter Wood, and I can think of no place better for Battlemarked players to begin their journey,” said Sernett. “The first adventure in Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked will take players to familiar locations including Cragmaw Castle and Mount Hotenow. The world of D&D is just as much a part of the story as its characters, and we can’t wait for players to immerse themselves in its dangers and delights.”
