What is Iron Guard?

Iron Guard is a classic tower defence game that was originally released for PCVR on Steam in 2021. It then arrived for Meta Quest the following year. Featuring a sci-fi aesthetic, Iron Guard offers a single-player campaign set in the year 2232 A.D. Taking on the role of 1st officer Graves, your ship has crash-landed on the planet Akris, and it is up to you to protect the lives of the surviving crew.

That means getting to work building defences and other structures to gather resources. Hostile enemy waves will attack via multiple set paths, growing more frequent and in greater numbers as the levels progress. To give yourself a fighting chance, you’ll be able to upgrade your towers to pack more of a punch. Furthermore, you directly control a drone to shoot enemy forces and unleash super weapons.

Iron Guard features multiple gameplay modes, offering a wide variety of missions to complete.

Iron Guard for PSVR 2

Four years after its initial Steam release, does the PSVR 2 version feature anything new, you may ask. Currently, that remains unclear as Xlab Digital hasn’t said if the port utilises features like eye-tracking and adaptive triggers found on PSVR 2.

All we do know is that Iron Guard for PSVR 2 launches on 14th May 2025, at 9pm PT (15th May, 5am BST).

What’s next?

While PSVR 2 gets Iron Guard this month, Meta Quest and SteamVR are set to welcome the next instalment of the franchise this summer. Iron Guard: Salvation will bring the franchise up to date with more turret-based action. For the sequel, the war once waged on Akris has now spread to multiple planets across the solar system.

Iron Guard: Salvation will feature 30 missions across these planets – as well as Akris – with new enemies to encounter. No firm release date has been set for the sequel’s launch, just that it’s scheduled for ‘Summer 2025’. There’s been no mention of a PSVR 2 version, either.
