The latest edition of Codemasters’ EA Sports WRC arrived late last year with a mainly positive reception. Prior to launch, the studio confirmed that VR support was in the works but didn’t detail any sort of timeline. Now, in a recent update detailing Season 4 content, Codemasters notes that VR support for EA Sports WRC arrives this month.
EA Sports WRC VR Support
Codemasters has been an avid supporter of VR for many years. Mainly because racing games work so well with the technology. Sticking you directly in the driver’s seat, when teamed with peripherals like a steering wheel, there’s nothing quite like it.
Ever since the likes of DiRT Rally 2.0, VR has been an additional bonus for those with the kit. “Built using OpenXR technology, VR in EA Sports WRC adds a new dimension and level of immersion to your rally experience,” says Codemasters. Actual VR gameplay specifics have yet to be detailed. Although you can see a brief tease in the Season 4 trailer.
Season 4 of EA Sports WRC
The official videogame of the FIA World Rally Championship, EA Sports WRC features 78 rally cars and 18 WRC rallies. Season 4 begins on 9th April adding a new set of customisation items for your driver and cars. Drivers can unlock up to 10 free items, as well as an extra five with EA Play, and an additional 15 with the VIP Rally Pass for a total of 30 items across the entire season.
A new Season of Moments, celebrating the history of WRC with daily challenges in-game will also go live that same day. These will include Touring the Safari (Kenya), Take the Win (Monte Carlo), Battle of Attrition (Greece), and Neuville in Finland.
VR Platforms & Launch Date
While EA Sports WRC supports multiple consoles and PCs, the upcoming VR support is entirely PCVR exclusive. There’s no specific date for the free update either, just that it’ll be the “end of April”. You’ll need to own a copy of it on Steam where it currently retails for £44.99 GBP/$50 USD. If you’re a member of EA Play, you can enjoy 5 hours of gameplay before purchasing.
